Broken omega springs :Benchmade Volli

I flick open all my knives including my Benchmades. It's not any worse on the knife than if it were assisted or automatic which clacks the blade open even harder. I'm not going to walk on egg shells with my pocket tool, life is too short.

In regards to the Omega spring breaking, well no surprise there springs do break from time to time. It could be for a number of various reasons. It would be logical if Benchmade would supply these to the customer but they don't. This is when having more than one knife comes in handy.

Yes. I always carry a backup in my go bag, and if the springs are truly a weak point, there's so much to love about the Axis lock. Just glad Benchmade keeps us in service with replacement parts on a short duration schedule!

Just to clarify I don`t think the springs are a weakpoint, the spring that broke on might have been due to the fact that I rehandled it,but that is not the point.
Things change and axis locks have been out long enough that people might need to pick a pair up.
Seems reasonable that they could be available.
They are just .022" spring wire in the shape of an Ω.

If you send a knife into Life Sharp they can inspect the springs and replace them. Just did it twice with my two Mini Griptilians. New springs, new pivot, washers, screws and clip.
If you don't look closely to find the wear on the handle these now look almost new.

I wish all of the Omega springs were set up like this. Straight around a post, into the liner as opposed to.. bent through a hole in liner.

One of the springs started sagging and finally broke on my Minigrip less than a month after I got it, but I'd rather blame that on an isolated case and a fluke than something that regularly happens to them due to the design.

Anyway, I got new springs, a replacement clip and some new screws after contacting the people in charge of warranty work here (Sweden) and it was rather easy to just switch them out. Warranty work like this is almost easier to sent parts for unless the owner is completely incompetent, if I were to send it away it'd take a month to get it back.

I'm guilty of flicking my benchmades when I'm bored and have gone through enough springs myself. It's silly that they don't send. We should have the option to void our warranty to get some. I started making my own. I ordered some .022 music wire from amazon and use a round nose pliers to make the bends. You can find some nifty tools at craft stores to make the bends you need. I'm going to try .024 to make it a little stiffer but .022 is really close to factory.

Exactly.

It's like watching someone slamming the door closed on a '66 Mustang. I mean I guess it's theirs and they can do what they want with it, but it's abuse and so unnecessary IMO.

Nope. Not really like that at all. I don't slam it open as hard as I possibly can. It's more like a click. Like when you're closing the door on that '66 mustang and you hear the parts engage. And they made doors heavier back then so they had a more satisfying 'thunk' when closing. The Para military 2 has a very satisfying double click when opening .

I recently broke a spring on my mini barrage. I fashioned two new springs from .025" (.64mm) music wire. I replaced both because I wanted to use a slightly heavier gauge. Works better than new. It even took out the slight vertical blade play its had.
