Broken rivet...

I've been using my Busse FFBM for some batoning. The other day i noticed some play in the handles. I took a close look at the knife and couldn't notice anything wrong with it.. After a few more swings i set the knife down and my brother picked it up. He noticed that one side of the handle was missing the rivet. Looks like the rivet broke in half. I will attempt to add some pictures i took of this at home tonight.. Anyone have any recommendations as to what to do? Was i abusing the knife abnormally? i do use an axe to pound the FFBM through the logs i'm splitting

Thanks in Advance

You could send it back to Busse and they will fix it.

I've never known fixed blades to be an issue coming or going from/to Canada. I have read some problems about certain kinds of folders going into Canada.

And no it's definately not normal :) Normally the rivets don't pop until you beat the knife with a sledgehammer repeatedly. Either way they're still covered under the warranty, so toss it back to ohio for a fixerup.

I would not hesitate to pound my FMBLE through wood with a soft mallet (ie one of the plastic dead blows, or something else soft). I usually just use another piece of wood, as that is soft.

my concern with using an axe to pound it in, would be deforming the spine with the hardened hammer part of the axe.

As you have already noticed Busse stands behind their knives.

I would agree. I usually use another piece of wood that I set aside for that purpose. It could be that the sharp impact from the axe combined with wood material pushing up against the handle caused the problem.

Sounds like you are giving that thing a workout! :D

The customer service at Busse is second to none as you can see and they will hook you right up!

No issues with fixed blades across the border unless they are push knives or have integral metal knuckles.

I know this may sound "odd" but I usually use the axe for splitting wood.:D:D:D

Just kidding an axe would never due.
