Broken RTAKII?

Anyone ever break their RTAKII? If so, will RTAK replace it? This is assuming that it was under normal use, like batoning.
Thanks.

I am unsure of Ontario Knife Company's policy regarding breakage of such a nature, but I'm inclined to think that they'd make it up to their customer. RTAK is not a company but instead the model of the knife. The RTAKII is not produced by RAT Cutlery, though it was designed by RAT before the creation of their own and independent company.

Yeah, you'll have to see Ontario about that.

Although you might as well also join the pile-on of whiners (like me) pleading for a RAT RTAK.

:D

But they already have it in the works! Don't rush the amazing! :D

Yeah, I am confused by all this who made what and why whos name is on this knife. I really like it, but it broke last night right in the middle whilst I was battoning wood. The strange thing is that this knife was battoning tons of ash about a month ago in really cold weather and it rocked. I am wondering if it encountered something in the wood to make it fracture. I have not looked a the piece of wood closely yet, but I will soon.
I was just curious to know if Ontario? would replace it for me.
Anyone have experience with a similar situation with this company?

Ontario is notorious for having somewhat hit-or-miss heat treatments...chances are it's a problem on that end of things. I'd get in contact with customer service on that.

Thanks 42, I will call their customer service department on Monday and see what they say. I will keep everyone posted.
Sad to know about their heat treating and I guess this is why everyone here wants RAT to develope their own RTAKII.

Ontario has a bunch of really nice folk workin in their Customer Service dept, but it seems like the company policy is to delay, or assume you were doing something wrong to break the knife. At least that was my experience.

But they WILL help you out, ya just gotta hang in there and be firm about it.

Pictures would be very much appreciated and a brief description of what you were doing that broke it.
I have an RTAK II so I would be very interested.

Ontario--in spite of their dealings with RAT--should treat you well. If you have problems, let me know and I have a rep who can help get it resolved.

Agreed. While I've heard of a few QC issues I've never heard a bad thing about Ontario's customer service.

I had/have an old Ontario RTAK (first one) mounted on my 4 wheeler. I was chopping some dead branches and chipped the blade. It was a half moon shape about the size if a nickel. I called and Ontario replaced it promptly. Apparently they did have a bad batch (from heat treat) early on but unknown to me past that. I have had no lproblems with this one and have really beat it over the last few years. Been very good for what I bought it for. Sorry, no pics...:(

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the feedback. I cannot take pictures right now, but it is split right down the middle with a sightly slanted fracture. I am really surprised because as i said, I was working it like a dog a month ago on a ton of ash and it even got stuck once in the middle and was hung up on a knott and the blade was bent quite a bit while it was stuck in th log, but when it came out, it sprung right back to straight. I think what did it this time was that the log I was splitting had twisted grain? I am really not sure.

:D No need to whine Bro, it will be made, the RAT Cutlery RTAK is a Future Project just no time frame set.;)

The RTAK II is one of my favorite knifes. If RC made one with a Eagle front gear pocket sheath I'm sure it would be VERY well received.

Thank you very much Tony, I am glad you got your way with the OD/Orange RC's...cuz I absolutley wuv mine!
