bronze meets infi...........

you ever work with BeCu? strider has done some very limited releases in that metal. ping also made some sets of clubs in it. nasty stuff.

i would love to coat some blades in copper or bronze!

no one has even asked the most important question...... 'how did you plate micarta....... ???????????

and dont ask....cause its a huge secret

Plated plastics are not unknown, a quick search turned up this outline of the process:

"Question - Why will electroplating not work with plastic? How can
plastic be plated?
-----------------
Juven,

The reason that plastic parts can not be easily electroplated is because
plastic is a nonconductor of electricity. Plastics can be metallized
though, through numerous plating processes. I will just outline some of
these process that are used in metallizing plastic parts for the
automotive industry. For starters, the parts must be perfectly clean from
any oil, grease or any plastic injection mold compounds. If the parts are
not cleaned properly, the metal will peel off over time from the plated
plastic part. Then you process the plastic part in a very aggressive
chromic/sulfuric acid bath to etch the plastic surface (make small pits on
the surface). Then you place the plastic part in a palladium chloride
bath to place metal particles in the previous pits made on the plastic
surface. After this palladium metal deposition, one can electroplate the
part with copper metal and then chrome plate or many other various metals
such as nickel or gold.

but I imagine you are doing something new/different that represents an improvement. Good Luck!

hey "tin knocker" that's one of the coolest things I ever saw!

Awesome!! ....what creativity!

oh i am gonna use it..... broze is soft but i like scratches and such.....lol

Is it possible that you can re-strip the blade of the new coating but leaving the material in the ever present tell tale pock marks of the raw INFI product?

I can only imaginge after seeing many, many, many pictures of stripped BUSSE knives and their varied pockmarks would leave a unique Damascus like pattern time and again when those pits are filled.

Lastly could you post a pic of the result if you try.:) Thanks!

( note- yes I know only for the upper half but damn, still look uniquely cool! )

unique is a good code word for 'why would you do that?',,,lol

:D So is 'interesting', and it IS, no doubt... But, why would you? Hey, just askin'! :D ...I guess that I'm curious as to why the handle, really. How is it in the hand? Any difference in grip & feel?

My guess is some obviously patented VDP system, Vapor deposition works on plastics and metals alike, not the strongest stuff in the world but it works, although never seen it done in bronze. Cool non the less imagine coating steel that normally corrodes easily and you get the non corrosion properties of bronze.
