Review Brother 1510

While VG-10 isn't the hottest in the modern world, I'm pleased to see it being used on a slipjoint. It takes a really nice edge and it doesn't chip. Railsplitter Railsplitter it is a spitting image of that A.G., isn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same factory.

Yes, there is a very close resemblance and I wouldn’t be surprised either. I kind of suspect it actually.

I don't think it is the same factory that produces A.G. Russell, mainly because it seems like a smaller operation based on some information I was able to find at a website that I can't post in the thread due to forum rules. If you are interested in looking at the information just shoot me a PM and I'll send you to the website.

About the pin on the shield. If you look very closely at my pictures above you can see a ghost of a pin at the cross section of the shield. I see the very same thing on the liner inside the blade well opposite the shield. It doesn’t look like a hole with a pin pressed into it. It looks just like what I’m seeing on the shield on the outside of the knife.

So unfortunately, I’m still not 100% certain that the shield is pinned but I’m going to assume that it is.

Alright, anybody except my knife enthusiast friends might think (or find out) that I over analyze things but I think I've got this "pinned shield" thing figured out. I measured the distance from the center of the front pin on both sides to the edge of the bolster. It's exactly the same at 17/32 of an inch on each side.

I think the shield is pinned because that's the spot where the pin would go anyway if there wasn't a shield. That might explain why some Brother models appear to have a pinned shield and others don't.shrug.gif

Very happy with my purchase of a Brother Knife.

As I see it it's nearly perfect in every way.

Good steel and ergonomics, beautiful clip blade with cool swedges and geometry. Rock solid lock up with no blade play. Well balanced. Nice sharpening choil. Packs a good blade relative to the handle, no gaps, centered blade, cool bolsters, nice white bone with decorative brass circle and a touch of orange at the bolster on both sides.

I really like it :)

That is really nice. I like those oranges touches too. That’s a really cool knife.

Don't have the 1510 but I do have the 1508. Other than it took over a month to get it, the fit and finish on this is excellent. I particularly like the carbon fiber handles. I have heard some complaints that the wharncliff blade make contact with lanyard through the lanyard hole, but this particular knife would not have that issue if I were to put a lanyard on it.

I have read this entire thread with interest. Honestly I had never heard of the brand. This has gotten me wanting to look at their offerings.
