Just got mine today, cool knife but half of the blade comes dull and seems to be over heated with burning mark :
Mine was dull from top to bottom. The lanyard tube was also broken though with the tang of the knife. I sent them a message over week ago with no reply… not what I expected .

Sorry, couldn’t figure out Insert Quote function. Actually my 54 year old eyes didn’t see the correct key on my small phone. LOL

I would send a message directly to Dan or Jerry. Definitely wouldn’t accept anything but 100% right.

Stopped in this forum because I was thinking of adding this company's knives to my collection. Glad I read the entire thread before spending any money. You know what they say about first impressions...

Two bad knives in as many posts suggests a lot of knives went out messed up. I assumed that at this price point a human would have personally inspected every knife shipped. Apparently not.

I saw where the owner responded promising to correct the issue. Thats good. This is exactly the kind of response I like to see when mistakes crop up. You should keep us informed as to how this plays out. What was done, how long did it take, all that.

I wrote Jerry and have shipped the knife out for repair. So far my experience with him has been excellent. He explained that this was a very rare situation and is committed to making things more than right. I will update when the knife is returned.

I am sure it is quite rare.

I reread my earlier post and realized it came across all wrong. Basically I sound like a jerk talking trash. That wasn't my intention. To be clear: I have heard nothing but good things about this company and their products. That's why I visited this forum in the first place.

I will check back to see how this all turns out.

I wrote to Jerry and he told me to return the knife, but since I'm international I'm just going to sharpen it myself, it's not a big deal. I bought more than 15 knives in their company and it's not this little problem that will prevent me from buying the scrapyard sword !!!!

Good news on both accounts. We received a pic of Maxkreiger's knife and there are no visible burn marks whatsoever in the pic that we received. Turns out that what he is seeing is an extra heavy layer of Cosmoline that we cover our overseas shipments in to prevent oxidation while enroute. Once this heavy Cosmoline is removed, the edge will be exposed and should easily cut paper. No knife leaves this shop without slicing through a sheet of paper along the entire edge. His knife did this prior to being covered in cosmoline.

Cosmoline Edge.jpg

We did receive the other knife with the purported edge and tube issue. The knife will easily cut paper from tip to stern and the tube is not split.

First the edge. It is paper slicing sharp along the entire edge.

I tested it myself and in the process, totally destroyed a sheet of paper that had all of my secret notes on it outlining every upcoming knife model and date of release for the next 15 years!!! OOOps!!!!

The tube was confusing because it is NOT split. However, there was a burr on the inside of the tube near the middle where the opposing dies come together. This causes no structural issues with the tube, but might prematurely wear out lanyards.

We have tracked down the cause of this tube issue and have fixed it. Turned out to be an alignment issue with the dies, as one of them had loosened and shifted.

Sharpness is subjective. We ship our knives with edges that will easily slice through paper. Our sharpening room is littered everyday with these papers.

Hope this helps to clarify.

As far as the edge goes, it is sharp. I sharpened it with my Worksharp shortly after taking it out of the box. I would have never even mentioned it had it not been for the tube issue. As far as the tube issue, to keep everyone honest I will post pictures of it so nobody thinks my complaint was “fishy”. There was an issue, Jerry took care of it and as long as it comes back corrected, I am satisfied.

Got mine few weeks ago, ups charged me another $6 for pickup because I was not going to be there at for their convenience(which they changed 4 different times ), so that's in addition to the $15 shipping charges that busse tacked by the time I got the knife it lost all it's appeal,I am done buying busse knives

Nothing fishy about it. The tube was not right. We'll fix it. All is well.
