Hello everyone!
It’s been a while since my last post here. I’ve still been busy in the shop though, and today I’d like to show you one of my latest pieces.
Brotsjárn (Broken Iron)
The name of this knife is tied to a bit of a story. After 14 years of making knives, I finally broke my first blade. The knife was originally meant to be another seax — much larger than this one. However, the remaining piece of steel was still big enough that I decided to give it a second chance. That’s how Brotsjárn came to life. Its name is engraved on the blade in runes of the Younger Futhark.
The blade is made rom 1/4" thick 80CrV2 steel. To add a bit more character, I incorporated two additional grinds on the spine and near the tip. The primary grind is full flat, while the cutting edge is convexed for extra durability. Parts of the blade were acid-etched to give it a more rugged, aged look.
The hidden-tang handle is made from brushed black oak, secured with copper pins. The guard and decorative emblem are made from fire-aged steel.
The sheath is made in the traditional Viking style, designed to be worn horizontally on the belt. For durability it is reinforced with hand-fitted steel fittings and copper rivets.
The knife measures 13.4 inches overall, with a blade just over 8 inches long.
Price: $579 including shipping to US. I accept PayPal, Revolut, Wise or standard IBAN transfer.
Cheers!
Adam
