Hi guys!

I am thinking about getting a Karambit from Brous Blades, but the way it's made is for a right hand operation only. If I decided I wanted to wear it on my left pocket...or if I was a lefty...am I out of luck? I have not seen one up close, but it looks like the clip has 3 holes drilled into it that secure itself onto the scales. I was wondering, if I took the clip off, put it on the other side and only using 2 of the 3 holes to attach the clip to the knife....would that work???

Lastly, say I can't change the location of the clip and put it on the other side. Is it possible to tap holes into the G10 scales and put a clip wherever I so please? I'm working on a deal for one of these bad boys, so if you guys could answer me ASAP...I would VERY VERY much appreciate it. THANKS!!!

Harry

(PS....I thought of Emerson, but I like the ball bearing feature and how the blade is angled on the Brous...and how smooth the blade deploys. That, and the Brous uses D2 steel...not 154 CM)

It specifies on BladeHQ right-hand tip up only, but you my be able to pull of left hand tip-up given the screw pattern. I wish I had more specifics/experience to share for you. If that doesn't work, take a look at the Knife Modders here on the Exchange, ShepardCC, spketchen, etc. I'm sure it would be a relatively simple job for one of them to tap a few screws for you.

I can say from experience with a couple of Silent Soldier Flippers and a VR-71 (that I miss), Brous Blades are nice quality knives. Very unique designs, indeed, but I've enjoyed them enough to replace my SSF after missing it for several months, and that's after multiple CRKs in between.

Thanks for your reply, I think I'll just pick it up. I never saw this model for sale so cheap. All finishes are available...I was going to have to small work done to the actual blade, so I figured it might be best to go with a satin finish as opposed to a acid stonewash in black or standard. I take it if I was to modify the blade, the finish would have to be redone as well. But if it's just a D2 satin finish, I could just dremel the adjustment I want done to it and just polish it up? I will keep those names handy...I tried contacting Brous to see if they can make a left handed clip for me...have not heard back from them yet. Any other info will be greatly appreciated!

The G10 actually has a milled relief for the clip to screw into. It's only on that side. As far as drilling new holes, I don't know how well G10 would hold if it was tapped for screws.

AHHH!!!! So it's your YouTube videos I have been watching over and over again!! Not sure what you mean about the milled relief, is there a way to put the clip on the other side of the knife?? I looked at my FOX 599 and saw that the screws had washers at the other end, so just tapping holes into the G10 scales will probably just ruin the knife. I REALLY REALLY like the knife, but there are several design flaws...IMHO. It should have been designed so that the clip can go on either side. With that said, if I heat the clip up and try to bend it in the opposite direction, to you think it will work? I don't have the knife in front of me...but perhaps I might have to shave or trim down some spots on the G10 grips? Charlie, I would ever so much like to follow your video to the "T"...I'm going to send you a PM, can you please get back to me when you get it? THANKS!!!

Sure. I'll have you call me. I hate typing on this tiny screen.

Well.....I went ahead and picked one up. Spoke with Jason and said he is working on an all new titanium version with serrations where the clip can be relocated. Expensive....he said it will be a 200 run and they should run for about $500+ and are due in April.

Anyway, going back to what I said, do you think I can heat and bend the clip myself so I can use it on the other side of the pocket? Perhaps use another clip all together? Jason said he would work with me, but he is soooo backed up, we were looking at a 4 month turn around. What do you guys think? Can that clip be altered by bending? When done, I'm going to cerekote it in black because all I wear are black jeans and pants...

I been waiting for you to call. My phone number is in the signature of my email.

I must be blind, stupid, or I don't have privileges to see your email/number? Can you PM or email it to me? I'm so sorry....I hope I'm not blind or just a dumb ass who can't see it!!!

My number is common knowledge so I don't mind posting it.

Spoke with Charlie Mike.....one hell of a cool guy. Gave me a lot of pointers. He told me the clip on the knife is very weak and that bending it might be a problem as it could snap off. I tried asking Jason if he could sell me a replacement clip in case I mess it up...I also asked him if I could buy clips from other model knives that he offers so I can try and see if something else might work for me. He said he might be able to do a custom job....but I think a 5 or so month wait is a bit much. Going to follow Chalie Mike's advice and very carefully bend the clip to affix on the other side. Was going to use heat....he said hear was not needed. I really wish I could purchase some other clips from Jason...but like I said, no luck. hearing back. I will try again.

On second thought, heating it might be a good idea. I bent mine without heat but you might not be so lucky.

Would heating it reduce the chance of it bending?

Also, the screws that have the clip fastened to the scales...are they by chance longer than the ones that are not fastened to the clips? I wonder where I might be able to purchase these identical screws???

Thanks again for your help and endless amounts of wisdom, bro!!!

Heating will reduce the risk of snapping the clip while bending it. Screws are all the same length, that's what the milled relief in the G10 is for.
