Brous T4 considered "Semi-custom"? "Mid-Tech?"

I'm still waiting on an email, 3 days now. Nothing to do with this thread, I was curious if he was making an acid etch version.

Good luck ever getting a response back. I Pre-ordered a T4 and have yet to receive it, mostly due to USPS, but my emails to him to check the shipping problem have gone unanswered. I should have waited instead of paying for a pre-order and shipping when I could have got free shipping from a vendor and probably have the knife in my hands instead of sitting in limbo.

I just visited his webpage. His blades are broken down into "custom" and "production". Customs are sure priced like full on customs. He seems to have made a lot of waves in a short time. Say's he made his first knife in 2010? And he received a lot of criticism from, as he called it, "internet commando's". I'm pretty sure he was talking about several here:D.

CNC'ing knives is sure not traditional. Probably can make what? 50 in the time a forger could make one? But, he seems to be selling. Based on his pricing I would guess that he makes a quality product. Although price is not always an indicator of quality...

I'm not going to get involved with the "controversy" aspect of brous but I know he water jets the blades and liners in house. As for scales and such I dont know. Like him or not he does put out a quality product at a great price. My T4 i just received really is a phenominal knife at any price. The smoothness of deployment from the bearings is glass like, I would say on par with the ZT 0801. As for production or mid-tech thats hard to say, maybe a little of both.

He was banned on the USN for stealing designs, then lying about it. Trying to make new accounts, spamming the forum, then lying about it. Not accusing, just what the mods told me.

I have seen and heard this myself. Also from what I saw on the green forum he did not take constructive criticism well... Considering his past and how he treats the community is more than enough for me to steer clear of anything he touches.

The green forum has it's own ethical issues so I wouldn't hold it against anyone who was banned from there...it's called toxic green for a reason. Thus far, I haven't met any knife manufacturer who can take constructive criticism well (Hinderer and Stryder leap immediately to mind...and even representatives of some of the larger companies that USED to have a presence here on BF).

What design is he said to have stolen? The T4 is a collaboration with another designer.

I've been watching the guy since his Kut Throat Kutlery days. (Remember those? They were ugly.) The guy has had a meteoric rise based on CNC-ed style over substance/performance/actual knife design, in my opinion.

More power to him, but troubles have always followed his product. Hate to sound like an old guy, but he came up too quick.

Constructive criticism or whiney little snots complaining over every tiny niggle. Big difference.

I ordered a t4 yesterday & hope to have it by the end of the week. considering the prices of alot of knives these days, it doesnt seem too high for what you get. worst case scenerio i will return it for a refund. from the youtube video i saw on it, it really looks like a great knife.

Talk about the knife and not what happened somewhere else.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I made an inquiry via the Brous website, and got an answer back directly from Jason.

-He considers the T4 to be mid-tech - "semi-custom" is his own terminology which is synonymous with the term mid-tech. "
The T4 is semi custom because we do all the finishing and fitting by hand." I also asked him about country of origin for all the components in the T4 and he indicated "everything we make is made right here in the US."

I'm working on my review of the T4.

Ive had my blacked out T4 for about four days and totally love it. Doesn't really matter to me whether is a mid tech or semi custom. The pocket clip is a bit of a headache but thats about it. Stoked to hear its all made in America after someone claiming they were just Chinese productions.
