Question is, what does everyone think of the price on this one??

SPECIFICATIONS:

Official Retail Price:

People may find the fact that the run is limited to only 250 pieces that might justify the high price tag.

$559-$589 is ridiculous. Ordinary D2. Brous also has a habit of producing more for limited batches. For this one is it 250 of each of the 4 variations?

I don't see that price going over very well for a production knife. Also, was anyone else expecting the title of "XL" to come with a longer blade than 3"? That's still quite small for a lot of us.

Obviously a collector chase rabbit.

And a 3" blade??? On paper, overpriced.

If it's going to be market priced higher than a Reeve it better be damn good. Haven't seen a pic.

Three thumbs down: :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

I don't care for his designs, 6 bills for D2 and an "XL" with a 3" blade with a giant hole in it is laughable.

I've considered buying Brous knives, but they always seem to be priced too high. I don't necessarily mind paying 500$ for a high-end knife, but there's better options available, IMO; I won't bother saying this maker or that one does a better job -- but for every Brous knife I've thought about picking up, I've found knives I liked more, often for quite a bit less money.

Brous uses titanium and nicely sculpted carbon fiber sometimes, but often substitutes titanium liners for steel, and carbon fiber for G-10, without reducing the price accordingly. D2 is a fine choice, and steel liners are alright, but not if you're charging >200$.

These aren't custom-made knives. They aren't even midtech... although that might be debatable, given the hazy meaning. There are design features I'm not crazy about, too, like using the backspacer as a closed blade-stop -- it may be fine from an engineering stand-point, I just don't like it. On the positive side: by most accounts, Brous make flippers that fire open very quickly and easily, and some of their knives are very cool, very distinctive. But unless this new design is a radical departure from previous models (going by the specs it isn't), the 560$ price-tag will be a couple hundred dollars higher than I'll be willing to pay for it.

It seems alot of companies are getting "proud" of their designs. More and more, even companies I have never heard of make knives for $400+ just because they are titanium handled ect. I understand the cost of materials ect. Even Reate is now putting their blades into the $400 range for full Ti scales. I'm not hating either, just simply trying to offer my perspective.

For me I do start to compare knives in this price range to the Sebenza. Not saying it's the be all end all knife. But for the money it generally sets the bar on what should be expectable.

Agreed on all accounts fellas.

That is just the initial run. Nearly every piece he has made he has done multiple runs on so the limited aspect is rather pointless. I still think this guy is pulling Qrtrm5tr. Either that or he just likes doing things the way china does them.

Meh. Just doesn't do it for me... I agree that it's way overpriced for a 3" blade in D2 with a boring "slab-o-Ti" handle. :thumbdn:

It's a BEAUTIFUL knife IMO, I dont have the complaints about the actual design. Who cares if they threw an "XL" into the name with a 3" blade? It's just a name.

Me. That's why I clicked on this thread...I saw "XL".

The way the Brous website describes it is funny: "With a 3 inch D2 tool steel blade, the XL SSF is the largest model in the Silent Soldier line". That explains the relative "XL" designation!

Also, it does not mention how many will be produced.

Probably no set limit in increments of 250 Pieces. When he says limited edition i really think he means each run is limited to a certain amount with no real cap on the amount of runs.

It is limited to whatever the hell number he feels like making. :D
