Brown Millies: Anybody using theirs?

So after a couple of weeks shipping time and the kindness of a fellow forum member, I finally got my brown millie. So I'm carrying it today to get to know the XHP. I touched up on the 30 degree setting on the sharpmaker and it's now hair whittling sharp.

Anybody else using theirs?

If I had one, I'd use it. But, I didn't get one because I had bought a BD30P Manix beforehand. But, I use all of my knives, so take that with a grain of salt.

Yes, I used mine at the IPCPR (cigar retailers) convention for a week of torture in Vegas. In one case I sliced open a shrink-wrapped box of bottled water. After noticing my shorts were wet, I concluded the milli cut more deeply than I'm used to. Only 4 bottles were sacrificed.

XHP is def 2nd gen, and returns to peak performance with a quick touch-up.

And the military is the willys jeep of the spyderco lineup. In form, function and performance.

I'm struggling with how one in m390 could eclipse it. But I'm a believer having recently added a benchmade barrage in m390 that is also performs in the same class.

I sent my backup copy to golden after I screwed up the pivot screw (I'm polish, comes natural). They didn't charge me and I had it back in my hands in 10 days, despite their 3 week turnaround estimate.

I also did some impromptu spear carving for my son the snake hunter (in our camp last weekend) with the Millie and all the younger boys were in awe at the badassery of the military (wood chips flying, arms pumped). They were all demanding carving services for their sticks and ill-qualified raggedy branches. Mister can you carve mine? Mister, can you cut these branches off of mine?

LOL, nice story. As a wannabe steel head, I find that the XHP sharpens up nicely and in short order. Ankerson has the XHP in the same bracket as ZDP in his rope cutting tests. I'm thinking ZDP performance with ease of sharpening is a winner.

I think I've been spoiled by carbon fiber. My first thought when I got mine was "This thing is heavy."

I'm still carrying my CF/M4 hybrid.

If I had an CF/M4 or a CF/S90V, I wouldn't be using anything else either. :D

BTW, how are you finding the XHP?

I carried the XHP Manix 2 for a while. It isn't bad, but it isn't S90V, either. It didn't earn a permanent place in my pocket.

I am! Love it. I find the steel performs extremely well in my normal day-to-day uses, is easy to maintain, and the knife is a looker as far as I'm concerned. I have other Millies too, and they all get used, but this one'll get lots of pocket time/use for sure.

I think its right on par with zdp in wear resistance but its easier to sharpen and tougher. I use my manix xhp quite a bit and I love it,its got a really nice bite to it. I actually think ot holds that fresh of the stone edge longer then 20cp.that said xhp is usally done shaving after a week give or take some days,at my job. where as 20cp just continues to shave forever

Interesting observation. I still have to get to know this steel. I do find that it seems to be easier to sharpen than ZDP. About S30V'ish to sharpen Thanks for the input.I haven't reprofiled because it came with around a 30 degree bevel and the sharpmaker at 30 sharpens it right up after cutting up some cardboard and wood.

not in my experience. and just to play with words, a steel can't be easier to sharpen than another and more wear resistant at the same time as wear resistance is what determines how hard to sharpen it is. it can hold an edge longer while being easier to sharpen as wear resistance isn't the only factor in edge holding. but in this case my relatively modest experience with XHP (1week EDC) and the chemistery of both steels says no. i might change my opinion after i resharpened it (wich it needs badly) in this case i'll report, but i doubt.

anyway atm i still prefer this one over ZDP as it seems quite tougher and easier to maintain.

I have 3 militarizes 1-Brown 1-Fluted 1-M4 and have not used any of them.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/793481-Ranking-of-Steels-in-Categories-based-on-Edge-Retention-cutting-5-8-quot-rope this test seems to say the same as my real world use. I might give a slight edge to zdp but its slight . Xhp is easier to sharpen and that is basically a wear resistance test no?
