Browning Crowell & Barker Competition Knife

The convex edge on mine is really good. Supposedly, some of these had edges tuned by Barker or Crowell themselves. Maybe I got one of those?

That would be very cool if you did!

I know that these were suposed to come from the factory with convexed edges, but I swear that mine was a regular V edge before I just reprofiled it. The blade was flat ground, and the the last 1/4" towards the edge looked like it started to convex, but the final edge was plain V ground.

...it was still pretty sharp, but it's even better now that I gave it a true convexed edge.

Mine was sharp, sort of, but the final convex edge was a bit obtuse, much like some Busses I have bought. Since such edges are hand applied, I'm sure it varies. It's a slashing demon now that it has a better edge. Thank goodness I have a Kalamazoo 1 x 42 belt sander.

HornDog,

How does it compare to the effectivness of the RD-9 now that it has been thinned out?

Thanks

It can now do anything the RD9 can do. Both are very good knives. The Browning is a bit more refined. I think the handle on the Browning feels better.

That sounds like it wasn't finished. its a competition knife, and one of the primary rules of the competition is that there is only a single bevel across the plane of the blade.. if you had any secondary bevels then I think it was an accidental grind.

This is a pic of it when it was new, kind of hard to see, but you can sort of make out where it starts to curve just above the V edge...

I went ahead and evened it out after this pic was taken... Funny, if you are the same Kyley who has vids on youtube, I think I got some of my first convexing tips from you. :)
