Just lookin for opinions on these 2 knives.I have seen the browning video and read some favorable reports but was wondering how it compares with the spyderco offerings.
I have a few spydies and have been quite pleased with there performance but anything browning I have goes bang. The knife will be used for camping adventures and will see moderate and perhaps some heavy use/abuse.

Thanks for your responses.

I don't own either knife but would guess that both would serve you well. If I were to pick one I would get the Browning just because I'm not too keen on re-curve blades.....why are you only picking from these two ?

They are both very accesable to me without having to do the mail order thing.
I have no experience with recurve blades so would you shed some light on pro's con's to such a design.
I am not opposed to others and would appreciate other sugestions as well.

The recurve is a bit more of a challenge to sharpen, but is supposed to give you a little better cutting ability when the knife is used for slicing. I prefer a strait edge.

Another option for big chopper is the scrapyard dogfather. You might want to check the exchange (busse exchange), I think there were some there not too long ago. It is one hell of a knife for around $200.

I asked about the thoughts on the Woodlander over in the Spyderco forum. Here was the response i got:

since you are just a registered member like myself you cant do any searches on here...i suggest you go to the spyderco website and look up woodlander or dayhiker in the search function...a bunch of threads will pop up with some posts by Mr. hossom himself. i remember there was a youtube video going around with a guy dismantling an old cottage wall using a dikehiker IIRC, just abusing the crap out of it but the knife took it.

edit..i found the video, it is the second one but the first one looked like it might interest you too.
