I recently received a Browning Ice Storm in the mail, and it's one heck of a knife for $35. Beautiful anondized handle, low ride clip, good blade shape and steel (VG10), and a very fast and easy deployment. I have two problems, though. One, the blade has both front to back and side to side play, which I don't like. Also, the pivot isn't easily adjustable as it seems to spin in the handle.

To anyone who owns one of these knives, does yours have play? Is the pivot a pain to adjust like mine is?

Mine have no movement at all. Try disassembling it, cleaning it up really good, then lubing it with a good knife lube then put it back together.

I did that on the three I own. I did a Mili-Tec and hair dryer treatment before I reassembled. The blade centering is easy to regain because it was directly related to the pivot screw tension. On mine anyway. All three get dead center when the pivot is just right for a nice smooth open.

They take apart and go back together very easily.

BTW, I have two straight handled and one curved/ (I gave another curved away as a gift). I think the straight handled model works better and is less finicky about blade centering, etc. They function better too IMHO.

I can't get the pivot to turn without both sides turning, and so I can't seem to loosten it up. Any help?

Well, I just took out all of the handle screws, squeezed the handles together, and that tightened it up enough. Now there's no play, it still opens nice and fast, and it's now my favorite knife. I did lose one of the screws, though, so that sucks. It's not an important screw, luckily, so I'll just try to find it, and if I can't, see if Browning won't send me some mroe.

arrrgh, i want one. They look so perfect, but i cant find any in Canada and am afraid to ship.

No movement on mine.
Got mine from CDNN and they still have some in stock.
(I prefer the gold handle's blade design vs. the blade design with the green handle. Just personal preference from a utility perspective...)

I dig my gold-handled Ice Storm. It came incredibly sharp, has no blade play and solid lock-up. The color on mine isn't exactly gold, though; I call it "dusty, metallic pumpkin."

I got a bunch to give as gifts during the Holiday.....and each one has fantastic fit and finish with great lock-up, as well as a razor sharp VG-10 blade. These are great little knives !

I completely dissasembled the knife, but I noticed that the two washers are different sizes. Does it matter which side I put them on?

It usually does, yes. You should be able to figure it out but watching the blade as it opens and closes. The smaller one is usually on the side that needs some sort of clearance.

I've looked into this one too but I'm just not a fan of metal handles.

I have one in the mail. It should be here today, I hope it is as nice as everyone says. For $26 on ebay new in box I couldn't get hurt too bad.:D

I had three and all of them were eventually like you are describing. It's a shame 'cause it might otherwise be one of the best knives for the money out there...
