Does anyone know who made the original brass with wood inlay browning lockbacks?I believe the blades were 440c.

There were US made, German made and Japan made ones, in that order. Which model and what origin is stamped?

USA stamped, solid brass frame with wood inlays. I don't know the model number. I used to own one. They were pretty hefty and solid made.

Without a model or photo not much I can say. Even then the well known brass/wood models were mostly designed
by Gil Hibben. I've never seen an actual maker mentioned. Those old USA made Sportsman models only
had "Browning USA" on the ricasso on one side, with nothing on the other. So I'm not sure where you got the 440C from.

They may not have been 440c. Someone a very long time ago told me that. I did not read it anywhere. It is very hard to ascertain the makers on browning knives as they were all contract done. I was hoping someone on the forum was fortunate enough to have know one of the old factory workers that might have known where they were produced. I have been speculating gerber USA but that is all it is.
