Bruce Bump Allen Pinkerton Bowie

That DOES look like a contender for "forum bowie of the year"!

Great work by all, and CONGRATS Kevin on another stellar addition to your collection!

Peter

Thanks Guys for all the positive comments.

The Bowie feels incredibly comfortable in the hand and though it looks as if it may be handle heavy it's surprisingly well balanced. Bruce was determined that we wouldn't sacrifice ergonomics in getting the look we wanted.

When I commission knives, I tend to push the embellishments or design elements to the limit, so there's always a risk of a finished knife that's overdone or too busy. I've even had makers tell me "HOLD ON here" ;).
I pleased to hear you guys feel it all came together nicely in the end.

Bruce is on fire, producing one great knife after the other. Anyone wanting a knife from Bruce better jump on the wagon quick.

Thanks Guys! Much appreciated compliments.
This one is defineately a group effort. Kevin didnt even mention that Doug Turnbull got involved too with the color case hardening process. If you havent seen the complete WIP on the CKCA forum you need to. The colors were were so heavy that they overpowered the gold wire and most of the engraving so we decided to polish off the tops back to silver steel. I like this process as most fine firearms that are engraved are also case hardened to preserve the fine details. Oh yes, Culpepper amber dyed the stag too. This bowie should qualify for frequent flyer miles if there were such a thing.
Thanks for looking and Thank You Kevin for the for the opportunity.

you all did a phenomenal job on this knife, most especially you Bruce!
Your eye and talent are something to write home about:thumbup:

Fantastic looking Bowie, Bruce, your work never ceases to blow minds everywhere.
Kevin, You have a keeper there, Congrats !

This one is simply Redonkulous!!! :D

I think I could stare and fondle this blade for hours on end if she were mine.

One ?? How would this hold up to serious use, or would you ever do more with it than just 'stare and fondle' it and of course display it.

Thanks guys.

I will display it, however I will not own a knife which I don't fully believe will perform to a very high degree. The combination of beauty and high performance is what I desire most in the knives I collect.

The same thing goes for my interest in classic Corvettes.

Thanks Redsnake.
I do make knives to be used. This one should pass the standard ABS test except for the blade may not take the 90 degree bend portion as this one is not soft along the spine for a better acid etch purely for looks. In that respect it could break at about 90 degrees but I think that would be abuse. Pretty big subject really. I also think the blade is ground thinner than some bowies of this length. Then there is the hollow grind vs flat grind vs convex debate. I happen to like this 14" big wheel hollow but then again I like flat and convex too.

Thanks for the info guys... I feel the same way about all my custom knives... I want to be able to use them if need be. I'm SURE this one would be up for any reasonable challenge a knife if this type should be.

It's a GORGEOUS knife and sheath combo!!! Thanks for taking the time in your WIP thread and showing all that goes into one of these.

Redsnake, speaking of displaying, here how I have the bowie/sheath displayed. Sorry for the poor photo.
