Hey gang,
To help all of us Blade-deprived souls get through the withdrawl shakes this weekend, I thought I'd post up some in-progress pics of a knife Bruce is working on right now.
The full thread with comprehensive pics and commentary can be found on Bruce's forum here: http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?t=9468
What follows is a summary that will give you the general idea.
What really caught my interest in this piece was the making good out of something gone wrong theme.
As Bruce explains:
I have had a couple feather pattern billets that have had some small cracks along the edge. These cracks are from the stresses created from shearing them into two parts, forgie welding them back together and drawing them out into a usable billet. They are small enough to be ground out but tend to be right in the wrong place. By grinding them out I discovered a new pattern. Simply grind half moons out from both sides alternately from the blank and press the blank straight again. The result is my "Winding Feather".
This is the blade at 2000 grit:
And after polishing, bluing, etching, re-polishing, re-bluing and re-etching....
SHAZAM!
More to come.
Roger
