Brunton Compass Update

After ordering a GPS Eclipse model for and a 8099 Eclipse for a person on here, I compared these two with my older cheapo compass. I found the circle in circle system to be AWESOME! I like it way better than the old standard arrow setup. The GSP compass is nice but I wish it was a little smaller. Although, if smaller I guess it would not work as well on maps perhaps. It fills the hand for sure.

The GPS model comes with a "wrist lanyard" which I think is a waist of time. It should have had a lanyard long enough to wear around your neck.

The 8099 is a sweet compass and has features that I would never use. It is made for the WAY more serious traveler.

I also ordered the Helios lighter but have not loaded it up with butane yet to see how she works.

More updates to follow.....

You never told me about the Helios lighter, please let us know more!

I bought a Windmill lighter while over in the US last summer, the one with the extra spring clip to hold the lid shut and the extra plastic padding all around but it turned iout to be a complete dissaster.

I now think that somebody sold me a cheap knockoff of the Windmill but I'm not shure, I still like to return it to "Windmill" but have no address of them, so if anybody knows it please let me know.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

The Brunton Helios is a very well made lighter from what I can tell. I filled it up with Butane a little bit ago and it is real nice how you can see the fuel level. One thing i noticed.... this baby has a VERY hot flame! Ph wait... all flame is hot... but... this this seems like she throws a nice flame out there. It has an adjustable flame and with mine set below the middle setting, it makes a flame of about 1/2" above the guard or whatever it's called... housing? Anyway, the manula says it produces a 2000 degree flame... sounds pretty warm to me.

I think this is super well made and will look forward to trying it out... but that will be awhile before I get out and make fires in the great outdoors.

I bought one off Ebay. Got it, acted up. I called them, tried some trouble shooting. Sent it back, they replaced, no charge. Now it works fine.

I also picked up a Helios. Found something interesting.

The core lighter is EXACTLY the same, only the "housings" differ. Same "delta" mark, same, same, same. Interesting.

But, I don't care. I like them both. Probably the Windmill better.

Was a bit disappointed that the Helios was "plastic" and not metal. Thought it was armoured. Oh well.

Just some tidbits..
