This knife design is taught in the ABS class Introduction to Bladesmithing. I watched one of their students build one at a knife club meeting and had to give it a try. The low slung handle and wide guard make this design fit the hand like an old glove. It is a brute too with a spine thickness of just under 1/4 inch.

5160 steel
Flat grind
Hand sanded finish to 600 grit
Bacote handle
Tapered tang and a distal taper on the blade
Overall length: 8 1/4 inches
Blade 4 inches
Riveted leather scabbard

$140 ----SOLD---- delivered to the US or Canada. My PayPal account is gldrewknives@yahoo.com I will also take checks with time to clear or USPS money orders.

Looks like a old rugged knife that will last your life time and a few more Gerry. I like the utility of it. An old blacksmith made it because that's what a knife is suppose to look like.

Have been to the class when Joe Kessler was there and he did one about 14 yrs ago. He said it was a Sascatchewan Bowie and the legend was that Bowie was in a bar fight (in Canada) and his gun missfired and he was shot in the shoulder and went straight to a blacksmith and had him make a knife. I have always doubted it was true but. Have made a bunch of them and can atest that they are great knives and very comfortable. You did a good job.

Mr. Drew, were you at the December Intro to BS class? I was all signed up, but work took me out at the last minute. That is a nice looking blade you've got there. I'm really liking your forged stuff.

Well you got part of it right Mike, it was made by someone old but I can't call myself a blacksmith yet. I only have three hammers and two tongs: the requirements are 35 hammers and 63 tongs before you can call yourself a smith.

Thanks Tito. I have not taken the Intro class yet. It is scheduled for this spring in NC at the Haywood Community Collage. I hope to attend at that time.

This one sold at the Asheville show today. Thanks for the comment and the interest in this knife. This one , and one like it, got a lot of attention at the show before they sold.
