Even without a specific application I want a Brute and anything else I don't have. It's all part of the collecting process that Guyon seems to know all too well.
Not me. I don't collect knives for collecting sake, more or less, . I buy for specific application and usage. My Brute looks like it went to hell and back because it was never meant to be buried in a closet. Do I like it? Yes. Is it effective? Yes. I've downed trees in warm weather and built a spruce bow shelter at serious minus degree weather while it snowed, in the very far north with it, etc. I bought that knife years ago because I wanted a do everything unit with the (likely very naive) ability to do major damage on a black bear if attacked. But the bugger DID make me feel safe and it DID whack the wings off winter ptarmigan and grouse with one light whack. I also recently considered trading it off for a different Becker or two because it's a freaking boat anchor on my leg, with other equipment sharing the same web belt. I got past that faze and I'm now glad that I still have it. I say that we are fortunate to have so many past, present and future Becker choices. I am likely sending away soon for the Magnum Camp and Micarta scales because I saw a site in N.Y. selling them already. The Mag. C. is the closest blade to what I'm looking for right now, and it's a Becker, so I don't have to molly coddle the knife. As my needs\desires change, my blade choices evolve. I'm glad that we have these choices.
