What is your favorite steel? Consider flexability, ease of resharpining, edge retention, and affordability.
Even though I don't care for all the CS factory hype, I'd say carbon-v takes the cake in its price range. Good stuff. Any thoughts?

Where does BG-42, A-2 or 440C fit in with this?

Steels, like women and wine, all have their attributes. Depends on your intentions.

420V, 440V, 3V, INFI, BG-42, D-2, A-2, 440C, 440A, 440B, ATS-34, L-6, M-2, 5160, 52100, 50100, VG-10, AUS-10, AUS-8, AUS-6, 1095, 420V/D-2 damascus, Talonite, Stellite, Beta-Titanium, O-1, A-8, Carbon V, 0170-6C, Gin-1.

I guess I'm not that picky. Properly done, I like them all.

Carbon-V is a bargain. If I can get a good deal I really like A2, it's tough and takes an excellent edge. John Greco makes some knives from A2 that are a real bargain. In stainless my best all around pick is BG42. Buck makes semi custom folding hunting knives that can be had with a BG42 option in the $100.00 range. I've got a Fallkniven F1 and I also think VG10 is a great deal.
