I was first introduced to Strider knives through some firearm annual that did an article on them (authored by the individual that the DB was named after?). Anyhow, it was a very thorough article which is why I've had great interest in these tools ever since reading it.
On to the question. I now have the opportunity to purchase one of the two knives that I have had my eye on for close to a year now, the WB or the BT. My money order is in the mail to purchase a BT but the seller also has a WB as well for the same price. He has given me the opportunity to choose either of them. So the question is, which one?
In the aforementioned article, the WB was one of the Strider's that initially received a military contract but did not specifically elaborate on why it got the contract. The BT has been touted to have one of the strongest tips. The WB seems a bit more streamlined and wieldy than the BT. The BT seems a bit more utilitarian than the WB. Both knives appear to have benefits to each of their designs. But there can be only one.
My intended use for the knife is to accompany me on fairly long (and sometime treacherous) hikes and will be used primarily for "outdoorsy" activities. At the same time, it would be convenient to have a fixed blade that could be used for self-defense. The BT strikes me as more of a knife you'd want to take in the boonies with you (although any Strider would serve this purpose). It seems as though the streamlining and balance of the WB would be better suited to self-defense than the BT. Anyhow, I am assuming that someone out there has one, the other, or both, and was wondering if you had any thoughts on either knife as a choice to meet my needs.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
