I like it, it's sorta like a drop point version of Allen Elishewitz' Pirate, which has more of a clip point to it. Nothing cuts like a hollow grind but it makes the tip quite thin, this is a nice balance of the two. What's the blade steel?
I am not familiar with the Pirate but do know that Allen has some kick butt designs. As you pointed out, the compound hollow/convex grind solves the problem of the weaker hollow ground tips. It also does the job of looking kinda cool at the same time. This was a experimental piece for me because it started off with a pretty fat blank. I wanted to get as much slicing power as possible out of that fatty
