Forged a couple 5160 hunters yesterday and tried out the bubble Jig. After feeling like a monkey playing with the bubble and the angle that was comfortable with the platen I nailed it.

Or should I say that Fred nailed it. :D:D Excellent tool Fred and would recommend to anyone no matter what level of experience.

I know what you mean about the monkey thing. It takes a little time to adapt it.

But once you get a feel for it you can really start taking the metal off.

Thanks for your input, Fred

Just finished two more Fred and that went much faster. Put a swedge on one and that was a little tricky to get them even on both sides.

Were you working off the tool rest or on the platen to grind the false edge?

I grind swedges resting my hand on the tool rest using the front of the 8 inch wheel.

I had a chance to try my bubble jig out this last weekend. Sweet tool! Took my a while to get used to it also. Kind of like riding a bike. Takes a while to get the hang of it, but once it clicks it's smooth sailing after that. I have a new rotary platen I was fooling around with also. That may have added to the 'getting used to it' time.

Got a new disk grinder from Rob also. Still trying to figure out how to use it with the disk. May be a moot point, as the flats are already established when I would got to the disk. Didn't get much time experimenting in this area. Maybe next weekend.

Get tool Fred. Thanks for making it available to us!

I was grinding on the 8 inch wheel free handed. Thanks for the tip Fred. Everything is in the oven right now so will try the rest later today.

Well put Dan, hope we hear more from others.

The disc from Rob are really nicely balanced. I like to run the bevels on the disc right after I finish the rough grind on the blade; all the highs and lows will show when you do this.

Thanks for your post. Riding is a good analogy.

Happy grinding, Fred

It took me a bit to get comfortable with this jig, but I use it to start every grind now. Thanks Fred you done good
