Buck 101 Hunter Fixed Blade

My two cents? The 101 looks like a great knife and a good option to the 110, 102, and 103. I will probably get one this coming year at some point. I like the idea. The pouch sheath does not bother me. I have a couple of hunting knives I have carried extensively and never had an issue, but the knives to sit deep and tight. My 102 and 120 both have flap sheaths and I do not care for that sheath, unless I am attaching the knife to the strap of my pack.

I can't help but to think that this knife in CTS-XHP would be simply awesome. I love that steel. It is one of my favorite stainless steels. I much prefer it to S30V, S35VN, 154CM and others. It is a stainless D2, basically, but the properties far exceed D2. It holds an edge better, is not too hard to sharpen (D2 can sometimes be a pain), is highly stain/rust resistant, polishes better than most steels, and has good toughness. It is really about perfect for the types of uses Buck knives are made for.

Does anybody think a lanyard hole would be of any use on a knife like this?

I think it comes down to personal preference. I have quite a few knives that I made lanyards for, but more as an aesthetic kind of thing (And because I like to fiddle with paracord). I also have quite a few knives that don't have a lanyard, and I don't really miss it while using the knife.

I'll buy a 101 sooner or later. I think it would make a great knife for processing food and small pieces of wood (shavings). I also kinda want one or two for my kitchen or as a steak knife. Something must be wrong with me.

I do agree that it probably won't replace someone's 102 or 105 though.

It's not the way I would have designs it that is for sure. To me the advantage of a fixed blade is the guard.

I'd like to see the traditional 300 series aluminum/phenolic handle with a 110 shaped blade.

For those thinking of a lanyard on a 101, the open top sheath and lanyard do not mix well. It will end up hanging on a branch like a Christmas ornament.

I'm warming to this knife, as a kitchen knife. I'd still prefer a folder or a knife with a guard for the field.

Ever since my dad got back from chasing down a wounded pheasant and realized his knife was somewhere in the field(we never did find it) strapless sheaths for me are little more than blade covers while the knife is in my tackle box. Should have a good bit of fun money next paycheck, I'll look into the C&C offerings, thanks.

Agreed. Secondary retention is absolutely necessary.

View attachment 1440124 View attachment 1440125 This was talked about 10-15 years ago about Buck making a fixed blade 110. Don't remember which forum it was. Nothing ever
Happened at that point, but the minute I saw one I got it.
Can't say I like it over any of my other fixed blades, cuz like most of you I have some pretty decent knives in that size class.
I use it as I need to and am very glad I got it.
Pic a bit fuzzy, poor lighting at the time.
