Buck 102 Woodsman

When you are working inside there are times you cannot see the knife, you do it by feel. I like a shorter knife blade on a full size handle (118 is my favorite for whitetail). The full size handle allows a good grip and a short blade doesn't get in your way inside a moderate size animal (100 - 200 lbs). You can feel the wetness and you could slip your hand if you don't grip it properly - but as mentioned it starts getting sticky too. OH

Great picture!!

I can almost smell it!!!

:D

I have an elk handled 103 that is almost as smooth as the bone appears to be. I work very hard at keeping my knife hand clean, rarely will I get the knife as dirty as OH's is and when I do I typically have water close by. Anyway all that to say, there is a noticeable difference in traction between it and something like the Open Season series. If you are the type that uses a tight fist grip on the knife then probably wouldn't notice it. I keep a light grip on it and constantly reposition in my hand as needed to get around the carcass.

I’m glad I got to read this informative post. I’ve always wondered what it was like to hunt, kill, field dress a dead animal. Heck Fishing poles give me anxiety too! Open season is over like my collecting days.

I don't have water close by, so I carry a shop towel. I use it to wipe my hands and knife blade during the field processing. Plus, I use it to wipe out the cavity after I rake all organs out. A clean knife cuts better. Even one wet wipe works wonders on clean up afterward. DM
