I read somewhere that the sheaths supplied with the 110 and 112 autos is designed to help prevent the firing button from accidentally getting pushed when the sheath is snapped closed. If that is the case then that might explain the boxier appearance.
I read that here too. It's plausible! I just looked more closely. The front side is very stiff due to an added layer of leather on the inside. I can see how the added stiffness would protect the button from an accidental press when you bump into something.
I just tried it in the aftermarket open-topped pouch I use to carry my regular 110 on my neck lanyard. It's thick/stiff enough that I can't get the button to press far enough to activate. I think the standard stiff sheath would do the same until it got old and started to soften. The floppier distressed leather sheaths probably not so much!
