Hey All,

The BG42 110s still seem to be very much in demand. They are pulling in very high premiums across the auction sites seen prices over 450$

Why do we think they pull such a high premium?

Do we know how many variations of 110 were made using BG42?

how many of us have a bunch inside their collections?

They are high on my wanted list I think it’s the stamp across the blade I like the most.

simple as the steel is long gone and highly regarded by those willing to pay high dollars for it.

the Chris Reeves and spydercos in bg42 command ridiculous prices as well, as two other maker examples who used it.

truth be told more than a few of the modern steels now surpass it, but it ain't a bad steel at all, just more nostalgia and rarity driving it than pure performance.

BG 42 is my favorite stainless steel for a blade. I'm fortunate to have a 110, 112 and a 560 in it. The steel takes a fantastic edge and holds it a long time and is not a total pain in the patootie to resharpen.

Do you believe it’s just a “faze” and the demand will die off when more of these better steels are produced? Surely most of the people who bought them back in the earlier days bought them to use so I bet there isn’t a massive amount laying around untouched.

no. it's gone pretty much except for the carpenter steel powdered steel version cts-b75p. ironically spyderco did a mule in it and wasnt very popular. dont see much use of it.

Buck could make 110s in CTS-b75p, and if they found some bg42, some in it. I'd bet the bg42s would sell out in seconds and the cts-b75p would sit a long while as few folks know this powdered version steel. it's equal to better than bg42 steel on paper, but as mentioned only performance isnt driving bg42 love, extinction and rarity is driving the market for now.

I’m just focusing on the 110s only funds can’t spread that thin to warrant different models. I think I have around 14 of them all different in some way

Direct them to me if you are not interested in them especially if they are 112

Yes I used to have a few spyderco and 1 in BG42 carbon fibre handle it was about 700$ at the time.. I wouldn’t know the difference to any steel as I don’t use them.
Long may the demand continue
