I am aware of many blade steels being used in limited runs on the Buck 110 over the years. I own Buck 110 Folding Hunters with four blade steels (440C, 425MOD, 420HC, and D2). I would like to see a listing of the steels in the order (top down) based on quality as a steel expert would rate them. The new Buck 110 Pro Hunter in S30V (which the Buck Knife Co. refers to as the best blade steel) got me thinking about this. Thanks, OH

S35VN has only been used on the 112, so far, right? Preston

OH, I'll give you a list. Some I don't have experience with but have read data I trust. Somewhere near the top would have to be the Ti coated blade w/ only one side sharpened. There are 2-3 guys on here that really like this ones cutting abilities. #2 Bucks S90V, (a couple steps down)S30V, cpm154, s35v, 154cm, bg42, D2, ats34, 440C, 5160, sandvik, 425M, 440A, 420HC & 420J2. I think I missed one. DM

All those steels do very well.

Some do better for certain tasks than others, but with a good heat treat and EDGE 2000........420HC will come very close to the best in many tasks.

The whole steel issue is overblown.

Of the 110’s I own or have owned, S90V followed by 440C followed by 420HC. All good quality, useable steels in my opinion.

Thank you David for the list and everyone for the additional input. Had no idea there had been so many choices offered over the years. Not going to try and find one of each, but was interested in how they compare. OH

I'm confused(usual state), Old Hunter ask about steel used on 110s. Is David's list for 110s or all Buck knives? Preston

If for only the 110, then Sandvik and J2 need to come off the list.

Have they done one s110v yet? Funny my 154cm 110 is becoming my favorite.

I found this earlier when looking for something else. I hope it comes out alright? Maybe this helps, I don't know much about the different metals either...

Yep, Mak damascus is in there. Were the one side sharpened Ti coated blades only offered on fixed blades? DM

I notice 420hc is the low one. The 110 with 420hc and the olderones with 420c or is it 440c seem hard to tell apart?

Here you go DM

The Ion Fusion is hands down the sharpest Buck I own. I don't know how long the edge will last since I don't really use it, but the science is sound.

I may just put this into service. 2nd sharpest out of the box was the D2, in my experience.

Sharpest doesn't matter if it doesn't hold the edge, of course.
