Buck 110 blade steels

CJ,Could you be saying the S30V is heat treated to 60RC and the 154CPM baked to 61?
Thanks DM

... " I am liking the S30V we currently use because at 60-60.5rc we are getting the same edge retention results as 154cpm at almost a full degree of hardness less...so less brittle...."
yea babb jest gota love that s30v! ;)
its my personal fav!

Did I mention the importance of the heat treat in all of this? ...great analogy.. about baking a cake requiring all the right ingredients but also the right processes. We have been doing our own heat treat and working with Paul Bos since the late 60's. That is how much it meant to my father and we will continue to do our own heat treat.
It is just too important to trust to anyone else.
yep ...no one cooks steel like the BOS!:D:thumbup:

I'm bringing this back as I remembered CJ saying something about S30V hardend to 59 and CPM-154 at 60. So, this is the one. Recently many have been wanting the Bass Pro models and gave positive comments about how they liked this steel. DM

I have a 112 with Carbon steel blade on it´s way from Buck. But it is a "custom" one.
52100 maybe? Actually I do not know. But the custom 112 was offered with carbon steel.
These two statements caught my attention. Was there ever any follow up on this subject? I've never before seen a mention of a 112 or 110 for that matter coming out of the custom shop with a carbon steel blade. This was only two years ago so if there was one (his) there should have been more. Anyone else know of them? Or could it have been damascus he was referring to?

As many people there are the "beg" for CS blades, I'd think that had they been available from the Custom shop two years ago, there would have been alot of them ordered.

Plumber, I saw that thread back there too as I was searching for this one. Which caused me to wonder why weren't there more posts in this.? DM

Yes, there was little to no comment about his custom 112 being carbon steel. Just seemed strange it didn't provoke more questions.
