If you can buy only one knife. Which one above would u choose? 102BR is the Cocobola Woodsman fixed blade. Help me choose, pls. Thanks. :D

well if it is for edc the 110 can't be beat as it has a smaller image when folded and in its sheath and you can get them with realy nice scales and custom baldes. but if you need one for a show off or camp use the other is likely better. think of what you will do with it after you get it.

For the money difference, you can get 2 110's for the same as a 102BR.

Just for cutting, I would say. Won't EDC both of them that much. Will see them with me in camping, but most of all I want a solid knife in that size range. Just not sure whether to get a folder or a fixed blade.

Things I like about the 110:

Low price.
Compact.

Don't like about the 110:

Weight.
Folding.

About the 102BR:

Pros:

Nice to look at overall.
Fixed blade.
Light weight.

Cons:

Double the price of the 110.
Narrower blade width than the 110.

Still deciding...

The 110 is heavy, but it's very very well balanced for delicate cutting (very handle heavy). But the 102BR is pretty (and now I want one).

I think if you want a good camp knife, both would be wonderful. But as much as I love the 110 (my favorite knife ever), I think the 102 would make the better dedicated camp knife just for the fact that fixed blades are easier to keep clean out in the wilds and a little harder to lose.

Get both.

As much as I love my 110`s, I would choose the 102 for the use you are describing. I use mine as a camp knife, at home when having a BBQ, and for cleaning fish and small game. Been doing this for over 15 years, and it still looks new. It`s a lot easier to keep clean with no recess for gunk to build up in.

How about a standard 102 and still have money for a 110?

The way I look at some things, is that they will be for a lifetime of moderate use. My first mid 70's 110 is still quite functional even after many many hunting seasons of deer and turkey, with an ocassional javelina.

I have the 110 always on my belt, and have a mentor 470 for a camp knife.
(I just like the grip of the handle on the 470)

Point is, a good knife will last a long time. Figure what you spend spread out over a period of years and it won't be all that much. Plus buy it now as it will go up in cost in a few years. I figure the 110 I bought in the mid 70's has cost me about 50 cents a year.

So, Go for one each! :)

I agree, one of each is the way to go! Might as well cover all bases.

I agree on the fixed being better for game, fish, etc. If I'm fishing, hunting, etc I don't have time/water to clean off knife real good. A fixed blade can simply be wiped off on your pants...A folder holds all that yechy stuff in the blade cavity...It never gets everything cleaned off...and the smell sticks...yuck... ;)

After I finish cleaning a mess of fish, or field dressing game. I just toss what ever blade I am using in the ice chest with the meat. Being in the ice chest, they usually don't dry out. A little dishwashing liquid and a brush cleans them right up. Scalded under as hot as the water will get, shake it off real good and the heat from the hot water will finish drying it. Never have any lingering odor.

You won't go wrong with either. I carried and used a 110 for years and it is a great knife , no doubt about it. I recently got a plain 102 "thanks Stomper" and I love it. They are both great knives but if I had to choose one I would go with the 110.

Definitely. If you have your heart set on the 102BR, I'd pick that over a 110 for camping. Best of both worlds is the standard 102 plus the 110. Good luck.

Yeah, I think there are any number of "camp" fixed blades I would select before a nice cocoabola handeled one. At least my past camping experiences doesn't call for a nice pretty knife. That old rubber handeled mentor 470 is as good as any I have found for a utility camp knife. Stays fairly sharp and sharpens up fairly fast.

Wife loves it. Made me get her a copule of them. Used to buy em for about 20 bucks.

But the post is about the 102 versus the 110...sorry for the drift..

Oh yeah! what about a 119BR? Now your talkin. (I still love the 110 though)

Yes, been thinking about the 119BR before also. But its handle looks too thick for the blade, in my opinion. (Just for the wood version, though. The Phenolic one looks totally nice to me.) That's totally based on its look, I know it's a good knife, too.

Wish Buck will re-introduce the General in some limited edition someday.

I think if you played with a 119 you would like it. Head over to Wally.....

There are numerous Generals show up on ebay. There are at least 7 listed right now.
Just do a search on buck 120

Ok.. forget about the wood, and the nice 110 in the meantime. I pretty much made up my mind, thanks for all the ideas. I want a fixed blade better and I am gonna go get a Phenolic 102! Cant beat that for the value and after a while, I do think the black and silver handle looks cool too.

Also have an idea on this, I might order a brown 102 sheath for the knife later, think it will look pretty neat with the black handle. Any of u ever tried that combination?

.... now another question is... should I get the 119 instead? good price, bigger knife..

Tok,,,

Head over to a store that has all of them. Play with all of them. Go for what ever feels good in your hand.

Any thing we all say is our preferences and experiences. And none of us is the same. I have small hands so like a smaller knife.. You may like a larger one.

Get what you like... not what we like. You are the one that will have to live with it if you don't like it.

May even be different ones you like better than a 102 0r a 119.

I would say not to be in a hurry to buy until you have checked out all of the variants. I know my preferences have changed over the years. When I head out hunting this season, I will be carrying a lighter weight version of the 110 in the form of a 560 titanium.

I consider a knife a treasure that I will have for a very long time and pass down to my grandson.

By all means tho.... Get what YOU like!
