Hello guys/gals.

I have a vintage Buck 110 that was my fathers. I would love to have it reworked after seeing what some of you guys have in your collection. This is a very sentimental piece.....even though....its old brass, beaten down wood etc....It was my fathers...I plan on keeping it in the family for decades after I am gone!!

Anyway, I would love to see some ideas and any info on guys/gals that do revamps on old Bucks.

I know I would like some file work done to the spine of the blade/spacer etc. Other than that...I am lost with all the different options out there.

Thanks everyone:thumbup:

If it were mine, for the sentimental reason of it belonging to your father, I would not have it reworked (i.e., customized) but might have it restored by sending it back to Buck for that purpose. Buy yourself a new one and have it customized or buy one already reworked to keep in the family for decades as well. Nevertheless, it is your knife and you should do whatever makes you feel best. Best of luck in whatever you decide!

Thanks for your input Tin Sue!

Might not be a bad idea......I was hoping maybe the brass could be buffed up and then just put some new handle material in there etc?

I am still trying to decide and that is why I appreciate your opinion bud.

Just so many variations to chose from:eek:

Thanks again pardner.

Welcome 45,Should you want to do this for you..The locking mechanism can be file worked and many different slabs could be added.I don't know many who care to file work a heat treated blade. (of some type of steel) How old is it? To pimp it up can be done, losing fathers flavor. Call Leroy Remer. I'm away from my notes so someone will have to supply that. DM

45, I have seen some of Leroy's work and I wouldn't do anything except get it cleaned up by Leroy. It would look better to get it in original shape and get another to pimp, as Tin Sue said.

David,

I will have to look into his work!

I am a Martin myself:thumbup:

Like I said...thinking I will have the brass polished up and just rewood the handles. I am sure it is something I can do...but I am just getting into knife making so I would rather have this done by a pro!

The blade isnt stamped with steel type....It is a vintage model, its old...lol I will try and post up some pics soon...but I am sure you guys know what they look like. But some help with steel type would help a lot too!!

Thanks again to all who have chimed in thus far.:D

To replace the Macassar ebony slabs will run 60$ plus clean and polish. So, 80$ . It better be a real old 110 and worth putting those $s into it. DM

That is a late 1972-73. Theres one for sale now for 40$. But 50$ is still in the range. Your call..DM

Thanks David,

Since this was my fathers....I would like to invest the money into it and get her looking good again. If it was any other knife it would sit in the knife drawer collecting more dust....But again...got some meaning to it!

Thanks again for your help David...much appreciated bud.

Now....Leroy needs to chime in:D

45, Leroy doesn't e-mail or post. Contact Its Too Early. He's replaced some Macassar ebony slabs for me and did a fine job. It was on the exact model as yours is stamped.
So, I thought it was worth it for someone. I remember those selling on the bay for 60-70$ w/ shipping and NIB (new in box). The blade is 440C a top grade cutlery steel. The ebony is a plus as well. Top knives w/ those features today sell for 100$. You have a good one may as well carry it w/ pride. By the way I not one of those damn Martin's,
I'm a good one. Just raised on a dirt road and no silver spoon.DM

45, I found Leroy's number; 619-561-2442. He's usually home about now. He has some of the original Macassar ebony left for the 110's. Let us know how it turns out. DM

Will do bud, Thanks again!

Chris

PR, I agree.....will save the super pimp job for one I score off ebay for next to nothing:D

Hey David,

Does he have a gallery or link to his other works on Buck 110's...the more I dig into this the more I loke.

Thanks man!

Michael Prather and a few others do as fine custom work on a 110 as anybody. And if you don't know... Once one has been customized it is no longer covered by Buck warranty. But that usually isn't an issue since these customs generally aren't users.

I believe Michael Prather is one of the few that will warranty his work, but again, these aren't users.

from what I have gathered...none of the custom 110's are being used...more for the collector. This one is well used and I would love to carry it!

Your call. My Dad passed a while back and his 110 got retired as an heirloom. New 110's are about $30 drive out at walmart. His 110 is about the same age as yours.

Tough decisions....
