Buck 110 Pimping?

You change it, it won't be your Dads anymore.

Just my opinion, but that says it all for me.

I just inherited all of my Dad's pocket and sheath knives. I wouldn't change a thing except the horrible cutting edges he used to put on them.

If I ever carry any of them, I want them to be like they were when he had them in his pocket. That will remind me of him.

As a bonus, he held onto his father's Barlow, and now it is mine as well. It is bone smoothed done to satin, and the blades are well worked. I hope to pass that one someday as well, intact, as my grandfather had it.

45, Leroy had 13 or 14yrs. w/ Buck. Most all in the custom shop from 1980-93.
He may still answer at triple-r-knives@cox.net . I carry and use my custom 110, some each week. I think if the blade is ok on your dad's 110 and its just the slabs getting replaced. He may like you caring enough to fix up his ole 110. He'd appreciate you carrying it. Just my thoughts. DM

Thanks again D!!

I will try the email...if I dont hear from him by early next week I will give him a call.

You guys rock.

DM has correct info on Leroy, I just mailed him a box of Bucks. I hope you are not in a hurry, as he has a lot of work. Leroy does fantastic restoration work on Buck knives, as well as very nice custom work.
If your inlays are not too bad, they can be salvaged. Personally, I prefer keeping family knives original, like the one my father bought from the hardware store when he was 5. I can't picture anyone selling a 5 year old a knife in this day and age.

Scott,

Thanks for your info. I dont plan on selling my dads Buck. This will be with me until I pass then go to my kids. I am in no hurry to have this restored. The wood is aged, but in great shape for how old it is. The blade is in great shape...the most wear to it is on the brass....some deep dings etc. But maybe I will just clean it up a little with the buffer and consider it done:D

I think I need to get in touch with Leroy regardless. He might have some good ideas for it if I change my mind.

Thanks again everyone.
