Buck 110 quality issues?

Yeah, I'll bite.

I measured my 110 Slims, they're all in around 3 5/8", and range from 3 11/16" to 3 9/16". The blades on those knives do not really resemble the true 110 blades at all, the clip is far less pronounced. I'd bet that this is a result of tumbling the blades, and I'd further bet that length is lost in the process. Tumbling will remove metal from the small parts of the blade like the point and kick heel. You'll notice the kick on these knives is smaller and rounder than on the traditional 110s. The tumbled blades are then sharpened, resulting in even more blade loss. Assuming, of course, that the same blanks are used on both knives.

Measuring a bunch of modern 110s yields a very consistent 4 11/16", give or take a hair. The old ones vary quite a bit, both in length and width.

You weren't 'blown off' by Buck. You got an answer. You didn't like the answer.

I just measured the blade on my 110 for the first time in my life and it came up 3 11/16. Up to now, I've used it to cut things without a problem. I suspect that I will continue to do so.

If Buck made the Slims with a standard 110 blade, there wouldn't be this controversy and the knives would be superior (in my opinion, of course) to the current design. Oh yeah, and a drop point Slim should be commonly available. (Another opinion, free of charge)
