I have had this knife probably 20 years or so and it was just laying in a tool box for years, since I recently got into knifes I decided to refurbish her.

I have no idea where I got it or how I probably found it hunting or fishing is my best guess. Somebody did
some embellishment on the brass ends with some engraving. I removed that but need to do a bit more polishing.
Sending her back to Buck for a fresh blade as this one is fish hooked on the end. Maybe do a hand rubbed Tung oil finish.

How does the wood come finished on these knives originally? oiled or varnish I would like to put her back to original condition.

Looks like you got a two dot there, send it to Buck for a spa job and blade repair if possible or replacement :(. They have magic leprechans in that shop. ;):D

What is a two dot?

If you look at the blade marking on your knife you will see .110. That's a two dot and indicates your knife was made between 1974-80. Your blade is 440C and will only be replaced with a blade of 420HC. The 440C might be harder to sharpen for some but it's a great steel. If it were mine I'd go with a spa treatment as suggested and keep the knife as is.

HMMM, Well I just mailed it off and requested a new blade. Do you think they could save the blade that is in it with that fish hook in the end?

I'd call and ask them. The new blade will still perform very well the way Buck does their heat treat. I just like the 440C better.

Not sure but if anyone can it's them. I'd shoot off a letter to them and follow up with a phone call during office hours explaining you'ld like to see if they can save that two dot blade by straightening out somehow. Congrats on that 110.
