Looks like same steel and handle material between them. Both have a pocket clip. Is there any gain of the TRX over the Pro in this instance?

Have a 110 Pro already, and while never opposed to buying another Buck, I am wondering if there is any gain to getting a TRX.

Thanks!

It's half the weight, 2/3 the thickness, and has a ambidextrous thumb stud. (In addition to the screws to lose and pocket clip to shred the leather seats) ;)

MT,
If I looked at the specs right it was 0.1oz difference between the TRX and the Pro. Did I miss something there? Maybe, I should have been more clear in that I was asking about the 110 Slim models, one is a TRX, the other the Pro. Already have the Pro and like it well.

Well there were some who complained about the pinned pro model blade either being loose or to tight. Bucks answer to that problem, The TRX screwed models can be adjusted to their personal preference.

IDK but I think they improved the clip as well.

anyone own both already? do some side by side pic comparisons. I dont have any new trx ones yet or I'd do it. thank you.

Mine should be here Friday. If someone doesn't get to it before me, I will.

But I'm cynical, so it probably won't go over well...:)

I apologize if I missed it, but are there plans to release a 112 TRX? That’s definitely something I’d pick up, I’m one of them oddballs that prefer the 112 to the 110. 😂

I like the orange, but I don't dig the black thumb studs. I don't mind thumb studs, but these look out of place. Plain metal thumb studs would probably sway me to buy one.

Here's what's in the photo.
Brass, cherry, and CPM-154
Standard fair 560 with flick-it stud
Micarta Slim Pro
110 Slim Pro TRX
110 Hunter Sport

My bias: flog me if you must, but I'm not a fan of screw together 110s. Not even the original 186 which is the benchmark that current models don't come close to.

I'm not a review guru so don't expect a whole lot. Photos then dimensions and opinions.

Sticking to the Slim Pro and TRX

Notice the size and location of the studs

Not damage to the Micarta, it's mud and I was too lazy to clean it up.
Notice the nice brass inserts in the TRX? You can't see the inserts in the Micarta because Buck was nice enough to fill them with screws so you won't have to clean them out if you want to switch the clip.

Blade shape

Some dimensions
Where. Slim Pro. TRX
Thickness. .39" .4"
@ stud. .46" .54"
@ the pivot .39" .48"
@ pocket clip. .65" .6"

Observations and opinions
I think I like the Slim Pro's pocket clip better. The new one seems a little light for a heavy use folder.

I could pinch the micarta together in the blade channel more than I could the G10, but that was expected and not likely an issue for the micarta.

You can see from the first photo where I put the thumb stud on my 560. Turns out it's the same place as Buck put it on the Slim Pro. It's less likely to be in the path of a cut, but still serviceable. Nothing wrong with the Sport or TRX location, but I prefer as close to the pivot as possible with retaining it's function.

Action and fit/finish is the same for both. Precisely as anticipated. Grinds are good, blade is sharp, etc...

The TRX came with enough oil on it to change the oil in my Jeep. The Sport came with enough to change my Duramax. Slight exaggeration there. Just considerably more than I'm used to seeing from Buck. No complaints, like a new gun I expect to clean it up before use.

Unfortunately, the pivot screw on the TRX is thicker than the handle. This means potential hangup on pocket if you wear jeans that you refuse to admit no longer fit, like I do. It will be interesting to see how the Cerakote holds up on the screw head after a couple years of use.

Personally, I like the Slim Pro better and not just because of my pinned construction bias. I don't feel the TRX is an upgrade from the Slim Pro. They missed on a couple of things: protruding pivot head, pocket clip, stud location, stud size, and open holes for the pocket clip.

That being said, if I didn't have the Slim Pro to compare, the TRX would be terrific. With the S30V, G10, and price, it's still a winner.

As to the Sport though... WTH would you put an ambidextrous thumb stud but not thread the other side for an ambidextrous pocket clip? FAIL
