HI

I have been lurking and enjoying this forum for years and was hoping to get some advice about Buck 110 compared to Schrade's Bear Paw. It seems that the 110 has a thinner tip and may not stand up to hard use.

Thanks for any advice
Marc

One of the best warranties and is the original. Buck 110
Edit-add. for $30 at Wal-Mart you cant go wrong

I´d go with Buck, I had a Buck 112 in the old 440C steel and it was very good and tough, a better knife IMHO than the new ones in 420HC. I have an old Schrade LB7 and it is also good, yet as I mentioned I prefer Buck for this style.

There are many copies of the Buck 110, I have two from Puma, and they are excellent, though those do have a thinner tip.

If you want a better Buck 110, try one from Pete´s Custom Shop at the Buck site:

http://www.buckknives.com

Follow the "CUSTOM KNIFE SHOPPE" link at the bottom of the page.
You can get them in fancy steels and handle scales.

Don Luis, what kind of Puma folders do you have? I've admired a Puma fixed blade that a friend owns. Nice solingen steel that cuts and cuts.

I'd go for the 110. Great knives. Great company.

The Buck has a better blade grind than the Schrade. The tip is kind of thin, but they aren't meant to be prybars.

I'd go with the 110. Or you could go all out and get a custom Buck 110 in your choice of steel and handle. I just received my custom 110 yesterday.

I'd like to get one. What are the steel options?

420hc in 3 different polishes. ATS34, BG42, Damascus, Ionfision, Black Oxide 420hc. I think thats most of them.

Buck 110.

I don't think that you can find a better work knife that can be built this good for the $30 price at WalMart. I carry mine everyday for work and it hasn't let me down yet.

I've had both, I like the 110 lots better. Blade takes and holds a better edge. Blade lockup over time is better. Feel of the knife in the hand is better, for me anyway. I also had a BG-42 blade put on one of my 110FG's and really like it.

A stag handled Prince and a simpler version with plastic scales, both are from the 1970´s. I also have a fixed blade Hunter´s Pal.

I recently handled an old Buck 110 and saw the offerings on the site and they look mighty nice. I am almost tempted to do a custom one. The website makes it so easy to picture the result.

That's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time! :D

The Buck 110 is the original hard use folder. For the price you can afford to pick one up and try to prove me wrong. ;)

The talk about the 110's got me excited, so while my wife was getting her nails done, my 6 year old knife nut and I strolled to oshmans and bought a Buck serrated 110 / Minibuck combo pack for $34.95.
The blade length of the 110 does allow for good use of the plain portion. And yes Nathan has a second knife to his collection.

Bought my 110 in 1976 and have used it HARD...still locks tight as a drum and can do everything it did on day 1. You just can't go wrong.

Is today's quality control on the 110's the same as it was in the olden days?
