Buck 110 vs. Gerber Gator

Gotta go with the 110, built like a tank, a true classic,a great value for the price, and if you need to you can use it to jack up your truck. ahgar

Yep, for $26 dollars it's hard to beat the standard Buck 110....but be warned:
Once you start using the standard 110, it will not be long before you seek out a Custom Shoppe 110....

This one has nickle-silver bolsters, asian water-buffalo horn scales, BG-42 blade, and the cost was $116.00 dollars.

Unfortunately I've already had a look at the custom shoppe ... and configured a knife just like yours.

In final wash up, it looks like the Buck is the way to go. Thanks for the wisdom.

There is no Wally World here in Sydney & the best price I can find is about US$53. (no real savings on eBay once you add on postage).

That's not "unfortunate" man....that's BEAUTIFUL!!!:)

You're not wrong. The black water buffalo scale with the nickel bolsters looks effing hot. I'll sound like an utter tool, but I'll go further and say the BG-42 makes it down right sexy.

In the meantime, I'd better start with the bog standard factory model.

After years of owning custom shop 110s, and "vintage" 110s from that auction website, I recently went into Walmart and bought a plain, basic, new 110. I can imagine no better knife for twice, or three times, the money. Locks up like a bank vault, fit and finish worthy of a custom, and a blade that takes a superb edge. And made in U.S.A., with an ironclad warranty.

UncleRimfire, welcome to these forums!

Thanks for all your help.

Went with the 110 C with nickel bolsters. If I can work out how to post a picture, I will later.

Interestingly the blade is engraved with a "Buck Knives Since 1902" scroll, something which the 110c with brass bolsters didn't have.

The Puma Prince was beautiful to hold but I couldn't justify spending twice the amount when the 110 will do the job (but I was half tempted to also take home a 112 whilst I was in the shop).

Cheers
Edward

After talking about this earlier, I dug out a bunch of folders to test. About thirty. Hands down the sharpest one was the Gerber Gator with the 154cm blade. This followed closely by the Cabelas Buck 110 with the s30v blade. These were followed closely by half a dozen Kershaw folders. The BM's are all good as are the CS. My Spydie Native s30v is another fine blade for sure.

Went back and bought the 112 (also a "c") with brass bolsters. Lovely knives and a great combo (110 in nickel).

Never intended getting 2 knives ... not that I'm not grumbling!

All I can tell you is I don't own any Gerbers, do own several Bucks, and my 1980 vintage 110 is my most prized knife. Tough as nails and holds an edge. 'Nuff said.
