A local dealer has a Buck 110 with smooth gray bone scales and nickel plated bolsters. The knife has rounded edges and is very comfortable to hold. This is the only smooth bone 110 that I have ever seen. I have seen red and brown jigged bone and stag scales on 110's in addition to the gray bone above. Is there a list showing what Buck has put on these knives? Does Mr. Levine's book address this? Any information would be much appreciated.

Chemist,
Welcome to the forums! Unfortunately, your first question is one i don't quite have the answer to. Buck has been making the 110 since 1964 and just about every type of handle material you can think of has been used at one point or another. Mother of pearl, Wenge, stag, elk horn, buffalo, Pink ivory, mastodon ivory, elephant ivory, and just about every color of bone, are just a few of them floating around out there. It would make quite am impressive display to have one of each!
Hope this helps,

This could be one of two different knives. What is the year mark on it? About 1989 Buck made some 110's using STAG that was too plain to use on stag knives. It was sanded smooth and then given a light dye job to give it some character. It is more dense than bone but you almost need to compare the two side by side to tell the difference.

Thank you both for the information. I think that Mr. Taylor hit it. After looking at the knife for a few weeks, I finally bought it. It's very nice.

Thanks for the update, I think I would have bought it too. Why don't you post a picture of it for us? What IS the year mark? I want to see if the old brain is still working right.

The blade is stamped 110+. I am not up to doing pictures yet. I'll put a picture of it on here when I figure out how to do it. I appreciate the information as while I've been a knife enthusiast since I was a kid and certifiable for probably twenty years I had no idea that the 110 had been made with so many handle materials.

The + sybol means your knife was made in around 1991. We did some 110's with several colors of smooth bone around that time frame. Yu can find some with an almost lite blue look to them that are actually what Buck would call gray. I have one with a damascus blade and if i ever happen to take another deer, i might use the knife to do the field dressing.
Take care,
