Buck 110 with Deschutes Picture Jasper from Oregon

Stunning work, redrummd! I was wondering if you have ever worked with or tried Agate Geodes for hndles? I have a geode, not that I would cut it up, but they can be acquired, and they are beautiful when cut and polished. I think if they aren't too much trouble to cut, they would make for gorgeous knives?

That is beautiful.

The Deschutes is a river that goes into the Columbia. It must be a Jasper (gem quality quartz, or quartz-granite) from this river basin.

Deschutes is also a famous regional brewery, but that's another story.

The Deschutes also runs through my back yard... Not the brewery. :D

Str8Edge - I use a lot of agate, both the vein and nodule varieties. The problem with most agate is it has compression faults. Agate forms deep in rock that is probably close to the melting point and over the millions of years it takes to get to the surface it goes under incredible pressures and shear forces. This is true for just about all gem and semi-precious stones and is my biggest problem in finding stone I deem acceptable for use on a knife.
