Buck 111

No the burnishing tool removes no material. It is like the spatula that frosts the cake. It smears and pushes stuff around. I don’t think that Aluminum work hardens like Copper. You use the outside of the hardened steel curved tip to move and smooth the surface. I have a used 111 somewhere that was engraved. I will dig it out and try the burnishing tool ploy if I get a break in my schedule.

Oh, somebody had a evening Expresso ^. On Fritz 111 those are deep stampings and would be a problem to get off without leaving a divot.
Still, no harm in trying. DM
I checked with Joe and he said a lost cause. I kinda forgot about it and lives in drawer of my display case. Think it may start getting pocket time. Nothing to lose and people get a chuckle when I tell the story

I have a Classic that my wife purchased for me that had "David Truman Sr" stamped on it. That's me except I'm not a Sr. and the last name has 2 letters switched. Most people when they see it just say "Sr?" I have 3 sons none of them is a Junior.

Tiguy, I'll be wondering.
I think this series was a great knife design. They may stand up a little better than the handle material of the Buck lites.
But they could be improved upon using a 300 series stainless steel sheet for the handle. Like those on the Gent, 525 with the rivets or screws. DM

The problem with steel is it’s 3X as dense as Aluminum. Titanium is about halfway between steel and Aluminum as far as density goes. If you used blanked Titanium plates, the cost wouldn’t be prohibitive.View attachment 839385

I would really like to stumble on to a 511 at a show. It wouldn't have to be perfect, I would buy it to carry. DM

I found mine trolling the bay. I stole one for very low money in nearly mint condition/no box. I learned a valuable lesson about drinking and bidding though. Having half a snootfull, I didn't realize, though in unused condition, someone had stamped several names into it.

Realized why I got such a good price

Or you could change your name to Edward Heinz Cheryl.

I wonder if the SPA treatment would get that out?
