I found this Buck and purchased on the big auction site. I really like the feel and look but I am having a difficult time identifying the blade. The tang is stamped 450 as is the auction description but I have been unable to find an original Buck 450 with this particular blade. Below is the listing verbiage.

1 of a kind Buck 112 that i had custom made when I worked at Buck. This knife was made with an obsolete 450 blade made in 2009. It features a serration and a thumbstud. The inlay is a rare Charcoal Dymondwood that is set inside nickle silver bolsters. It was fitted with a belt clip off of a model 290. This knife is amazingly beautiful and you will never find another like it. 2 more where made for coworkers but they were brass with the original inlay color and used as shop knives. NO RESERVE. This is my favorite knife.

There isn't any paperwork with this knife as it was built as a favor by a coworker that was the lead in cell 1 which builds all the Buck 110's and 112's. I never had a box for it either. Always kept it on a stand and cleaned properly.

I found an older thread topic with a 450 drop point blade but nothing that looks similar to this. What do you think?

There is a 450 Protégé available on the "big river" site with that blade.

There's another thread discussing 450 blades in the 112 frame (as you mentioned). I can believe it's a "one-of-a-kind". I don't know how much value or collectability there is in the so-called "lunch-box" knives since it's not an official Buck knife. Pretty cool looking none the less.

From Photobucket, copy and paste the bottom link that says "IMG" to the right of it. That way the images will show up without having to click away.

The model 450 Protégé had two blade styles. The earlier was the drop point and the hump back shape with the thumb stud came along later. It was called the Flick-It. Both blades are shown in the 1999 catalog.

There was also a version of the 112 with the drop point 450 blade. I believe they were exported to Europe/Germany as I acquired one from another forum member, Haebbie, who lives in Berlin. I don't have a picture readily at hand but perhaps he will come by and post one.

You have a nice knife. Welcome to the Buck Forum and thanks for sharing it with us.

The 112//450 was made for a scandinavian knife trader. He sold them en block to a German reseller and I bougt them from him. I sold these knives in Germany and overseas. No one is left, except the one in my collection. I am not at home kow, but may be I have a photo at photobucket. I' ll have a look later.

That is a sweet looking 112/450. Everything I would want in a cary 112 (except I would prefer the clip at other end) but would never use cause of it's one of a kind.
Nice knife.

That blade is also used on some of the 442's. I'm a little more of a traditionalist and think it looks atrocious (sp?). While I will admit it felt very functional, I had to grind it off, I don't need a thumb stud to open a knife one handed, just couldn't stand the look of it even on a plastic knife.

Anyone know if there are any 112/450’s available in Europe still?
A few month ago I found some of these knives offered in Germany. They came from the seller who sold these knives to me some years ago. If you like I can have a look.

This one is in my drawer and not for sale. But I sent out a mail to get an offer. I think it does a Benjamin plus shipping.
