Buck 112 Drop Points

I don't know who has collected the most but I own at least five.

For almost 50 years, I've carried a Buck 112. It's been a beast of a little knife and has handled most everything I've asked them to do. In recent years, I've come to really enjoy the drop point when it comes to field dressing game. It also falls under the legal conceal carry size of 3.5" for our state law. So while I'm not really a collector so to speak, I do really like the drop point 112. My 5160 in the middle has taken a nice patina over the last couple seasons using in the field. Look forward to Buck continuing the 112 drop point. And why in the heck isn't it a custom shop option?? ☹️

I have one and it is superb. I generally prefer the 110 size but just doing some whittling or close work it’s really nice!

I wanna play too Mike. Upper knife is the 2020 Carbon Fiber Legacy Series 1 of 500. Buck labeled it as a clip point in the catalog but I don't really know what to call it. To me a clip should have a bit of recurve. These just drop straight. The lower knife is the 2016 Copper & Clad 112 drop point with Indigo dyed handle. Frame is nickel silver.

My favorite 112 DP profile is the high radiused 2013 Boone and Crockett..just something about looks really good to me. The 450 profile too. But for a working knife a 'Spear' point is stronger I think. Back in the 80's Chuck and Leroy played with 500 Custom blades to make the first 112 drop points. S30V DP blades were used for the 2006 BCCI member knifes and I think that was the first regular run of them but I could be wrong. 450 blades were used in a few runs for the European market. As far as I know (and I have looked) no drop point blade has EVER been offered in any version of Bucks Custom shop. But I expect Buck to offer them to us in 2022 probably because of the 50th anniversary of the 112. Plus of course it's a profitable upcharge for Buck..I would really love to see a mirror polished DP in the Custom shop. I have never seen a Damascus DP but if I had a time machine I would go back to when Buck made just about anything you could dream up and have one made. Raindrop Damascus and Nickel silver with Ivory or Mastodon?? Priceless!

Oh yeah, Mammoth Bark... mmmmm, mammoth :drooling emoji:

You're right, that would be about perfect. I wonder if ya ever find "the perfect", is the disease cured? (says the guy who hasn't bought a fountain pen or a watch in a couple of years ;-) )
