I know it’s an old thread but that never stopped me.😂AC27DE5C-7558-4091-ACE6-F009C059DC64.jpeg
The one on the left i have learned is a catagory 2 version 2 1972-74? in the S wood. Thought the wood definitely looked different now i know. Middle one is a two dot before spa and the right is a new one.

Found this. Same 3 112’s. The bottom older one is definitely shorter and a little narrower than the 2 dot middle one. The blade looks much shorter but i really can’t tell if it was broken and re profiled. If so it was a great repair and will stay that way.

I would be interested in seeing anyones 1972-74 knife like in my last picture to ascertain whether the blade is as short as mine. Being that all the dimensions are shorter or narrower compared to later 112’s and the fact that many/all in this era were hand made it would be interesting to see if this blade is indeed the original length. Probably not but i hold out hope.

David on the very early 112's some, not all, will have a blade as much as a 1/8" under 3".. I have looked at a few absolutely NIB with correct shieth box and paperwork that were shorter than 1/8". I think it was because of the hand sharpening and possibly because someone at Buck wanted the 112 for sure to be under 3" because of legal requirements of the USN and the PX stores. Then again it could have been just one employee who just did it his way lol! Early 112's had a lot of hand work..

I’ve had bnib 110s that were anywhere from 3.6- 3.9 inches. Advertised length is 3.75 and some have more belly than others. I just imagine it depends on which person is on the grinder and how their day is going. Both of my 112s are exactly 3 inches with a nice belly.

I’m beginning to think that the blade difference’s you speak of are a reality. EC2AC002-9ABD-455D-925D-418F728FD192.jpeg
Definitely more belly. 4” vs 3 3/4 at the lock line or 3 3/4 vs 3 1/2 from end of bolster. Not sure where to measure exactly?
Thank you Fixall!

I can attest to the many different 110 blade profiles and lengths. I have a 110 FG that is just shy of 3.5 inches and appears to be the factory edge/profile. I think the infinite variable of different workers who perform/ed the finished profile/edge accounts for the considerable variances.

I measure from the bolster as well.
