Are these available outside of getting one from the custom shop? I haven't been able to locate them. I have a 110 and I don't have anything against 420HC, it's a nice user and definitely gets the job done. I was just looking to see what's out there, I've been seriously thinking about picking up a 112 because that 110 is just a shade too big (for me) to carry all the time.

I believe there have been 3-4 offered through the Buck Collectors Cub Inc. over the last decade or so that turn up. Other than that there might be a few build outs or limited editions floating around.

I ordered a 112 in S30V (oak grips, rivets) from Buck's Custom Shop and couldn't be happier. The combination of S30V steel and blade geometry makes this one of the best slicers I own. Fit and finish were as close to perfect as anyone could ask. Get one, you won't regret it.

Thanks guys. I was just wondering if there was a "standard" (for lack of a better term) 112 that came with S30V. I've been toying with the custom shop versions, but I did not want to have to "build" one and wait just to get an S30V blade. It's not really a big deal, maybe I should just suck it up and bite that bullet. [emoji2]

ETA the most recent two I've built. If custom shop is the only way to go, I'm going to have a hard time deciding between them. It will be a user for sure.

I'm relatively new to the 112, but I haven't been able to find a new one in S30V outside of the Custom Shop. Like you, I gravitated to the 112 because the 110 was a bit too large for the environment where I daily carry. That said, I have really come to like the 112 a lot and maybe even more than the 110. For pocket carry, I use an inexpensive lightweight Cordura sheath I found on line. It's mostly to protect the knife from keys and to help keep it upright inside the pocket. I do have one of the Custom Shop S30V's with ironwood scales...love it. I've also acquired the 112 in 440C (2-dot) and in D2, with a 5160 and and a couple of 420HC's in both plain and polished on the way. I'd recommend handling a 112 first. Then if you like it and can't find a readily available one in S30V that is to your liking, order one made. It's worth the wait.

You raise a good point, and thanks for sharing. Any thoughts on the finger grooves? I've always liked the idea, but the 110's I've had and used to it have them. I know it's a "personal preference" thing mostly, but still curious to know its advantages and/or disadvantages.

I have not tried one with the finger grooves so I really can't comment on them knowledgeably. For me, the plain one feels just about perfect so I'm not sure if finger grooves would be an improvement or not. I plan to get one in the future though, just to find-out if nothing else.

I like them both with or without the grooves as I own both. Even without it has a nice ergonomic feel to it. Perfect fit in my hand.

I agree that it does fit rather well in hand without the grooves. Is it kind of a "don't mess with perfection" thing? I could see how it could go either way depending on hand shape/size, but I don't have bear paws. I do like the looks of both though.

I started a thread about the 112 with finger grooves just a little while ago and guys offered some pretty opinions. I wanted to try them too so I was thinking about getting a standard version to try before I got one from the custom shop. I see 112's from other vendors that I want, so the CS version might have to wait. I really want S30V as well, so I have to think about what I want to do.

To be honest, Buck's 420HC isn't bad. I would really like a S30V version, but it probably isn't a bad idea to pick up a standard to use for a while first. I've even thought about vintage, but I've really been liking what they've been coming out with the past ten years or so.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have an issue with Buck's 420HC. It's been good to me for a while now, but an upgrade on an already fantastic knife is hard to pass up. Deciding which 112 to get is the best hard decision I've had to make in a while

I have the s30v in burl from the custom shop. Awesome knife. My current EDC is the drop point 5160 Bos from c&c in g10. Also awesome.

It has definitely been a decision. I have been leaning towards a standard version, but those CS 112's just come out so nice!

How do you like the drop point for daily use? How is the 5160? I have some experience with 5160, but not really enough to have a good feel for its corrosion resistance in real world, every day situations.

If I end up getting a standard 112 with finger grooves, I'll send it to you to try out...

That's an amazingly generous offer, I appreciate it! I may or may not end up biting the bullet myself. I've also considered, very briefly, getting rid of one of my PM2's for one, but man I love those things.

I was fortunate to find these two 112's with S30V right here at BF.

Those are some nice hunks of steel right there! The more I carry other knives, the more I keep coming back to my Buck knives. Awesome scores! Maybe one of these days I'll get as lucky :)

That's funny....I've been planning on selling my PM2 to fund the last 6 or 7 knives I bought anyway. Can't get rid of it though. We'll see since I have about 3 or 4 112's that I want. Did I mention stag???

Haha! I hear you there, brother! It always happens like that, then I get to spend the next month or two nursing the knife fund back to life!
