Buck 112 With S30V

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this but does Buck stamp their 110/112 in S30V? The only S30V Buck I own is an Open Season and it's laser etched with the model number and Buck letters. I have always felt like the engraved stamp is so much nicer looking and wonder why they don't stamp S30V?

Way back in 2007 one of the enterprising BF/BCCI members who collected 112's talked Buck into doing a very limited run of CS 112's. Buck offered the same CS offerings for the 110 on the 112's. At that time there were not many NK 112's that had ever been issued and even fewer of those issued with finger grooves. So I placed an order for two 112's with NK, S30V, FG, one with Sambar stag, one with Ram's horn.

Those are both just gorgeous. I love that stag! If it were one of those, I don't think the decision would be too tough ;) very beautiful pieces, my friend!

All of mine are marked with S30V.Here is an example.

JB4570: Your stag and ram's horn 112's are absolutely beautiful! I mean it...they are extremely nice. Gotta love the many flavors you can get these 112's in. And even more so for the 110, although I really prefer the 112. I have a Copper and Clad 112 in stag that should be arriving this week. If mine is anywhere close to yours in appearance, I'll be a very happy guy.

I prefer the drop point. I'm not really concerned with corrosion - I take care of my stuff. The 5160 takes on a wicked edge for sure.
I can't post a pic of the burl as I'm a lousy freeloader who doesn't pay. I have the burl on 2 knives and intend to order another soon. Looks great.

You don't need to be a paying member in order to post pictures.

Just below here it says I may not post attachments.

You're correct that you can't post attachments. However, you can drop in a link to your photo's via a web hosting site. You just cut and past your photo's from a hosting site like photobucket, that is also free.

Thanks for the compliments folks, FYI my photobucket is open. What that means is click on any of my photo's and my PB account will open, scroll to the left or right and see whatever you want.

No, Buck does not stamp 'S30V' on their blades. They are laser etched or acid etched. DM

As David says, current practice is to etch the markings. It was found that stamping would cause micro-fracturing in the premium steels such as S30V, hence the current practice of etching the markings on blades with those steels. If you look at the earlier Alaskan Guide knives (S30V) they are stamped and current Alaskan guides are etched. The change was not done as a cheapening. I do not know when the change took place.

Here is an Alaskan Guide Caping knife in my collection from 2008. Note the S30V is stamped. Compare to etched example in post #25 above.

I am still waiting for someone to come out with an aluminum 112. Any blade steel will do.

That's on the top of my list and could very well be my next knife. Please post a picture when you get it or at least give a nice description. I hope it's a perfect knife Mort
