I'm Thinking about purchasing a Buck 112, Can you give me any advise, and can you tell me how to tell one that is made overseas to one made in the US. Thanks very much for your help

...lil' red horsie...The 112 is only made in the U.S.A. Any 112 you spot will be a U. S. citizen. Try Walmart as they may have a few 112 Founder's Edition 112's left at some of the stores. You'll love it...

Red Pony, I just bought one of the Walmart commerative 112's today. It is a fine little knife. Sharp as a razor and works perfectly. Best of all it was just $25. My other 112 cost me about $43 earlier this year.

I've had my 112 for a good many years (about 20). I am very happy with this knife, and still use it from time-to-time. Pluses: classy, solid, dependable, lockback. Minuses: weight.

+'s outweigh -'s so go ahead and get one. :D

Wow guys these are great comments. I did not know walmart had them. Ill take a look there. Any other ideas? You guys are great thanks. Well I just went online at Walmart and they dont have a clue when you use the search function. So Ill do some searches on the internet. They also seem to have a knife with finger grooves. Any opinion on the finger groove vs. plain?

Walmart had them for Christmas and if you read the thread about the Christmas tins they are pretty much sold out by now. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=443470 The 112 from Walmart was in a special tin and had writing on the blade. It also had a nylon sheath. If you look at other stores, you may find one with a leather sheath.

You can also get 112's with finger groove handles for about $8 dollars more. I think they are a great knife, kind of a smaller version of the 110.

My brother gave me this one as a gift a while back. It is 100 yr anniversary knife from the custom shop. With the number 0441 on the reverse side of the blade. I just can't get myself to stick it in my pocket so I was looking for a 112 plain jane to carry.

If you decide to carry that 100 year anniversary knife get you a sheath if you don't already have one and carry it on your belt. Don't carry it in your pocket with keys, change or other stuff because it will really get scratched up. If you keep it in a sheath and take care of it when you cut stuff and don't abuse it, it will stay nice and good looking for a long time. But, by all means, look for the $25 112 if you can find it and use that as an every day carry. And go to Walmart stores, don't rely on the internet and look in the stores. They have a tin can about six inches by six inches and about an inch thick. All of this is in a larger plastic container to seal the whole thing until someone buys it. The box will tell you that the knife was made in the USA but the accessories (sheath, tin box, etc.) were made in China. Good luck!

What Darryl said.
It's a great knife. I went for decades being a 110 snob. Not until edumecated here by the Buck Scholars did I get one about half a year ago.
I love it.

What's up with the finger grooves? Which one do you guys like best? finger grooves vs. plain

Finger grooves are really nice, but for me I prefer the plain one. I am a big, tall person with big hands and the finger groove pattern does not fit my hand / finger pattern. It will work alright, but it does not feel like it was made for my hand. I do like the work done by Buck on the finger groove and I am glad I got it, but when it comes to using it, I go with the regular 112.

Hey XBoxXBox...
I like the function of the FG so I prefer it on my EDC.
That said, I like the looks of the 110/2 w/o the FG.
How's that for commitment?

Clear as mud. Actually I like the look of the finger groove, how the brass liners are cut to match the finger grooves. I'd say buy one of each.

Then after you buy the 112's, make sure you have a few 110's, then you have to have at least one of those cute little 55's, then ......
