  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Buck 119, Whats Your Opinion?

A small black bear like that one is ok with the 119, but, let's face it......a 120 has a bit of extra reach for the larger stuff.

I mean, it'll do if you can jump right on his back like this guy did, but few of us have such a talented bear dog with us and those claws are durn nasty when you face him from the other direction. You gotta get yourself a thick chunk of wood to jam down his throat when he comes for you, and he'll usually try to get it out
with his front paws and that's your cue to shove the 120 up through his throat and go all the way to the spinal cord.

If you're lucky, in the same move you can duck under his elbow and swing over onto his back, so if you didn't cut his spine with the first one you can continue to work on him away from those nasty claws, but you better be movin' fast.

That one's called the "Andy Russell" and he used to use it on bears up to Griz.

Remember, your mileage may beary.

I'd carry a couple of 119s fer spare back-up knives, and cleaning my fingernails, maybe.

;)

A 120, if I saw a bear I would want a 38 or 44 caliper HANDGUN. I just wanted to pass along a real story of a person with a 119 and how he survied a bear attack. Heck, if I saw a bear I'll use anything I have. The guy was really lucky to be alive.

Plus, that bear didn't look that small to me.....

Oh, I was just kidding around, Pete......myself, I'd take a 45-70 Gov. in a lever-action Marlin......with a .44 Magnum for a back-up......with a cavalry sabre for a back-up......with a 120 for a back-up.......with couple of 119s for a back-up.

the 119 is a classic and if you like it by all means you should buy it, it will serve you well. If you want something a little more in the sharpened crowbar camp go with the nighthawk. i've got both, if i want to skin or fine cutting i go with the 119, if i may need to punch 55 gal drums and fight off mastadons then i reach for the nighthawk. the only thing i don't like about the nighthawk is the sheath, it's poo.
