Buck 120 users? What do you use them for?

Thank You all now I have to get the book as well as a 120 which I do not own, so who is going to start the General club?

Pete
You sir! I‘m already responsible for the small club (118 Personal), TAH has the big club (105 Pathfinder), eveled has the 117 Club well in hand. I think you should run the General Club (as a retired Colonel I could be your Deputy!!). OH

Speaking of clubs, at one time I thought there was a 119 thread/club. I was looking for it last fall but couldn’t find it. I’ve always like the 119 and 120 but just started to actually use either of mine last fall.

I don’t recall a 119 or 120 club (these “clubs“ are just a common thread to post pictures of one model of knife and have some fun doing it). Go ahead and start a new one to show off the Buck 119, and let other Buck folks here keep adding to it - everyone likes to show off their nice Buck Knives! OH

I may do that. I need to maybe take a few better photos first.👍 I thought there was a long running thread on the 119 but it was ages ago.

kyhunt kyhunt A new thread would give us a chance to repost good shots or take new pictures. Some of these old threads are victims of the Photobucket debacle from several years back. Also my old photo hosting site HUNT101 went belly up and took all my pictures with it. It’s aggravating to go back in the old threads and the pictures are gone. I’ve learned the hard way to keep duplicates saved on thumb drives. OH

It very well could of been a victim of the Photobucket debacle. I was active back then but I can of fell by the wayside for a few years until this past summer.

I might start a new thread after church today unless someone beats me to it.😁

My 120 General came to me via the used market.

it is a bit of an anomaly of a knife.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great tool.
I just think that users aren't sure where or how to use it.

Part of that most likely stems for today's Knife phobic society.
When the 120 comes out in pulic, people step back.
But then again many of those same folks are put off by my 102 as well.
Their problem is not my problem.

I am a huge fan of Finnish history and culture, especially the Sami.
The Sami people while not being specific to Finland, but rather the northen most regions of Scandinavia.
They are well known for two specific cutting tools The Puukko, (small knife) and the Leuku (larger knife)
These folks are/were indigenous reindeer herders.

As one would expect herding reindeer in the northern latitudes is an arduous endeavor.
Being mobile and following the herds, often on foot, means nothing that isn't necessary makes the cut.

As many here in America sought ever thicker and stronger "Survival Knives"
The Sami folks seemed to get along just fine with their Leuku knives.
That did not go unnoticed by me. I would also venture a guess that many if not most "Survival Knives"
have never been more than 5 miles from indoor plumbing. Meanwhile the Leuku knives of the Sami will go for weeks or
months without ever seeing a permanent structure.

Personally, I think the 120 compares favorably to the Finnish Leuku. with its long slender blade it lends itself well
to breaking down big game. It is also a fine camp knife. I think if you already own a Leuku the 120 makes a lot more sense.
But it you are coming from a 102 or 105, it may be a bit off putting at first.

The easiest way to figure it out, is to just get it out and use it.

It is indeed a very capable blade,

Fire Prep, no issue,

Feather sicks and some smaller carving, can be handled too.

Paired with a few other simple tools it fits very well into a "Survival System"

And yes, it works very well in the kitchen,

The last shot, was from a thread I did on another website about a "Survival Stromboli"
Built from items sourced from my pantry. The 120 fit well into the tongue and cheek approach to my thread.
Some folks take themselves way too seriously.

Also, I have heard, I was not there (Too young) that the 120 and the 119 served many soldiers well in the Nams.
Not everyone carried a Randall.

Back in camp, the length of the knife lends itself well to use as a drawshave.
Trust me, if you take into the woods, use opportunities will abound.

LV,

P.S.

If I get some free time in the coming day/weeks,
I will try and post up some comparison shots between my Leuku knives and my 120.
