Buck 124 Frontiersman sheath

My data sheets for that model & year say, 'plastic Nemo sheath or leather sheath w/ red micarta spacers.' That could be it's original sheath.
Then for 1971 model 122 it states a swinging leather sheath. But the features of the knife are different. We would know it as a 1971-- Nemo. DM

Can you elaborate on what differences I need to look for to get a correct vintage sheath for my knife? Thanks
I would think the correct sheath for that Frontiersman would have a smooth black rivet, not the dimpled one which is a tad earlier. That said, they are scarce enough you should take any one you can find. Very few would know and no one would care.

Thanks for the information, I surely wouldn’t know the difference. That’s why I’m here to learn.

Why Nemo, David? Doesn’t the sheath makes the Name?

Leather sheath = Frontiersman
Diver‘s plastic sheath = Nemo.

The knife itself is always the same.

The 2 knives are different and the Nemo was offered with both the plastic and leather sheath. DM

I agree with haebbie. The sheath determines the model name.... no difference except for a few rare knives late 72/73 that were actually stamped with a model number. Per Joe Houser in the Dec2006 newsletter.....

Topgun03, there is currently is a knife for sale identical to yours, solid handle with micarta spacers. The holster style sheath is clearly pictured front and back. Look closely at the rivet. It is a smooth black rivet on the backside. Search 122 NEMO on the auction site.

Thanks DeSotoSky, I found it and see what you are talking about regarding the black rivet.
